Drew Brees (412 yards, 3 TDs) starts for Saints in in win over Jags

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, despite being listed as questionable with a torn plantar fascia, started Sunday's 38-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Brees excelled against the porous Jacksonville pass defense, going 25-for-36 with 412 passing yards and three touchdowns and no turnovers as New Orleans improved to 6-9.

Brees, who returned to practice on a limited basis Friday, had insisted he would play and that the game plan wouldn't be limited based on the injury to his right heel.

"It hurts to walk. It has its challenges," Brees said earlier this week. "But we've come up with a good plan for this week, how to support it and how to make it as manageable as possible."

Veteran backup Matt Flynn and rookie Garrett Grayson had split the practice reps in Brees' absence on Thursday.

The Saints played without receiver Marques Colston, who suffered a chest injury Monday versus the Lions.

Tight end Benjamin Watson, who has been limited with a knee injury, was active for the Saints.
