Orlando Magic: B

With Al-Farouq Aminu and Jonathan Isaac both sidelined, Ennis gives the Magic a bit more forward depth. It's not an exact match, because the 6-foot-6 Ennis is exclusively a small forward while Aminu and Isaac play power forward. However, sliding Aaron Gordon to the 4 to replace Aminu and Isaac has left a bit of a void on the wing.

Ennis is almost a perfectly average 3-and-D role player. He's a career 35.6% 3-point shooter, exactly at league average this season, and is a solid but not outstanding wing defender. This is the second season in a row a contender has found Ennis lacking and dealt him at the deadline, but he's still got value in a limited role for a team that doesn't have championship aspirations.

The price for Ennis was reasonable. The Magic gave up the Lakers' second-round pick, almost certain to be No. 59 overall. Because Ennis is on a two-year contract for the minimum salary, Orlando was able to acquire him using the minimum exception without sending anything in return.

Philadelphia 76ers: B

The Sixers had to clear a pair of roster spots Thursday in order to acquire Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III from the Golden State Warriors in a deal completed Wednesday night. Robinson's arrival made Ennis expendable. He's a more reliable 3-point shooter and probably a slightly better defender, too.

Waiving Ennis would have forced Philadelphia to eat his $2.1 million player option for 2020-21, so getting anything in return for him is a good outcome.
