We abruptly closed the book on the 2019-20 college basketball season last week, when the NCAA tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus. It was an unprecedented move under unprecedented circumstances. So we'll never find out whether Kansas would cap its dominant season with a championship or whether Obi Toppin could carry Dayton to a Final Four.
But awards and All-America teams are based on the regular season -- and 100% of the regular season was finished. So let's hand out some awards!
Player of the Year: Luka Garza, Iowa Hawkeyes
This is one of the closest Wooden Award races in recent memory, with Garza and Dayton's Toppin as the two clear-cut favorites for the past few weeks. For me, it comes down to Garza's consistency and production in the deepest conference in the country. Garza scored fewer than 20 points in only one Big Ten game all season, back at the beginning of January against Nebraska -- and he finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds in that one.
