What you need to know for Friday's games
The NBA only had one game on Thursday, so you knew they would be busy on Friday. With 11 games on the schedule, 22 of the 30 teams will be in action. Friday is another NBA Cup extravaganza, so we've got a lot of storylines to dig into.
We get another Texas Triangle game, this time with the Rockets going into San Antonio to face the Spurs in an early battle for first place in the Southwest Division.
The Warriors travel to Denver to lock horns with the Nuggets, in a game that pits two of the last three Western Conference teams to win the NBA title. Both teams are viable contenders again this season, but the Warriors will be without Stephen Curry and possibly Jimmy Butler III ... making them (spoiler alert) a nice target for streaming options.
The shocking Chicago Bulls, owners of the best record in the Eastern Conference, go to Milwaukee in an unlooked-for showdown between two teams already vying for supremacy in the Central, perhaps the toughest division in the NBA thus far.
These and many other storylines are in play tonight. As always, let's dig further into the matchups to identify fantasy hoops streaming options and betting angles of interest on this Friday.
Friday's fantasy stream team
Ryan Kalkbrenner, C, Charlotte Hornets (rostered in 34.8% of ESPN leagues): Kalkbrenner has been on a defensive tear of late, with four blocks in three straight games and 15 blocks in his last four. He also has six steals during those four games, in addition to one double-double and another 17-point effort. He'll get the chance to continue his defensive efforts on Friday against the Heat.
Isaiah Stewart, C/PF, Detroit Pistons (25.9%): Stewart should get his third straight start on Friday in place of Tobias Harris (ankle). In his last two starts this week, Stewart had one amazing game and one solid game that averaged out to 18.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG and 3.5 BPG. On Friday, he should be able to use his size and muscle to advantage against a tall but thin Nets frontline.
Cason Wallace, SG, Oklahoma City Thunder (22.5%): Wallace has at least one steal in every game he has played this season, and at least three steals in five of his eight games. He isn't a big scoring threat, but can notch double-digits and contribute behind the arc. He could have a larger role on Friday with Aaron Wiggins (adductor) joining Jalen Williams on the sidelines.
Moses Moody (5.6%), SG/SF and Will Richard (1.1%), SG/PF, Golden State Warriors: Moody and Richard got the start on Wednesday with Curry, Butler and Draymond Green all sidelined. They responded by dropping 28 and 30 points, respectively, including a combined 11 3-pointers. Curry is out again on Friday with Butler questionable with a back injury, meaning Moody and Richard could be in for expanded roles again against the Nuggets.
Snellings' favorite bets for Friday
Josh Giddey to record a triple-double (+250)
In last season's second half, Giddey turned into an every-night triple-double threat. He has continued his strong play this season and even expanded on it. Over his last four games, he has averaged 26.0 PPG, 11.3 APG and 11.0 RPG with triple-doubles in two of the four. The way he's playing right now, he is at least 50-50 to produce a triple-double every night, so to get this at not just plus money but +250 could be strong value.
Amen Thompson OVER 29.5 total points and assists and rebounds (-105)
After a relatively slow start to the season as he adjusted to starting at the point, Thompson has been on a tear for the last week-plus. In those four games, Thompson has averaged 22.5 PPG, 8.3 RPG and 6.5 APG (37.3 PAR) while notching at least 30 PAR in all four games. He's stepped it up even more in his last two games, averaging 27.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG and 5.5 APG (40.5 PAR).
Jaylen Brown OVER 26.5 total points (-105)
"Rested Jaylen Brown" has been a scoring machine this season. Over his last seven games, Brown has had at least a day of rest before five of them with the other two coming on the second half of back-to-backs. In the five games after a day off, Brown has scored at least 30 points in all five with an average of 34.8 PPG. The Celtics didn't have a game on Thursday, so Brown could be poised for another major scoring effort on Friday.
Nuggets -9.5 OVER Warriors (-115)
The Nuggets have won five of their last six games and, when they win, they tend to win comfortably. Their five wins have been by an average of 17 points, with four of those five wins by double figures. The Warriors, on the other hand, have lost three of their last four games. As stated previously, they will be without Curry and potentially also without Butler. The game is in Denver. According to the BPI game predictor, the Nuggets should be favored to win by 9.8 PPG and I expect them to outperform that expectation.
Russell Westbrook to record a double-double (+320)
Westbrook notched a 23-point, 16-rebound, 10-assist triple-double in his last game. The game before, Westbrook scored 26 points with 12 rebounds and six assists. And, in the game before that, Westbrook scored 12 points with 10 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes three straight double-doubles for Westbrook as he settles into his role with the Kings.
Yes, he is playing a difficult defense in the Thunder on Friday, but his opponent is the squad where he spent most of his career. He should be well motivated. Plus, he played the Thunder less than 10 days ago and came within a rebound of a double-double with 16 points, 9 boards and 4 assists. This is good value for Westbrook to produce what would be a fourth straight double-double. As a bonus side note, Westbrook is +2000 to record a triple-double on Friday, if you're really feeling it.
