Afreeca Freecs took a convincing 2-0 sweep over Jin Air Green Wings on Wednesday in Seoul, South Korea to close Week 5, Day 2 of League of Legends Champions Korea.
Jin Air Green Wings (4-5, 10-11 match record) took a slow and steady approach to Game 1, picking up first blood on AF mid laner Lee "Kuro" Seo-haeng's Cassiopeia at just nine minutes. Jin Air might've dictated the pace of the early-midgame with its siege composition, but it set such a slow and glacial pace that Afreeca (5-4, 14-11 match record) was happy to just farm and funnel gold into its late-game hypercarries. Finally waking up at 26 minutes, Afreeca Freecs picked up its first kill and began gaining on Jin Air's gold lead. Jin Air attempted a 34-minute Baron to maintain its momentum that backfired horribly, giving Afreeca a 1-for-0 and Baron kill. Rolling in the late game on the back of Kuro's 4/1/7 KDA (kills/deaths/assists) for 92 percent kill participation, Afreeca secured an Elder Dragon before storming into Jin Air's base, taking a 4-for-0 fight and finishing Game 1 in 44 minutes.
Afreeca returned to its late game scaling teamfighting strategy for Game 2 while Jin Air opted for a more pick-oriented composition. Afreeca jungler Lee "Spirit" Da-yoon's Lee Sin might've picked up first blood in a solo-invade at nine minutes, but another tepid early game saw neither team want to force any early action, content to extend the laning phase for over 15 minutes. Afreeca finally broke the stalemate with a Rift Herald secure followed by a 2-for-2 teamfight while the Herald destroyed the outer mid turret. From then on, Afreeca was fully in control, demolishing a 4-for-0 teamfight win at 24 minutes and securing an early Baron kill. Immediately after that, Afreeca ran down the mid lane, killing every member of JAG as a five-man death squad before closing out Game 2 in just under 27 minutes.
Afreeca Freecs prepare to take on Longzhu Gaming on Saturday at 4 a.m. ET, while Jin Air Green Wings face Samsung Galaxy on Saturday at 7 a.m. ET.
