Luminosity Evil fly high, Luminosity Loyal struggle

Genji flies through the air in Overwatch. Provided by Blizzard.

The third week of the Overwatch Carbon Series had potential for interesting results, but instead there were expected constants, like former Hammers eSports, now known as Luminosity Gaming: Evil, who won their games convincingly. LG signed the Hammers' roster and branded them LG Evil while the original team was rebranded as LG Loyal. And while LG Evil enjoyed their continued success, LG Loyal's struggle continued.

The first game of the week would start off with LG Loyal going against Team Liquid, who struggled throughout the OCS with an incomplete roster. Shane "rapha" Hendrixson, known as an exceedingly intelligent player with a successful history in Quake, rejoined the roster. LG won their first map against TL on King's Row and rolled out an interesting strategy on the first point of Temple of Anubis. LG Loyal, on the other hand, ran a no-tank strategy, putting Bastien "SuperPlouk" Klau on Widowmaker instead of his usual tank heroes.

The strategy proved effective enough to take the first point with a huge time-lead into the second point, where he immediately switched from Widowmaker to Winston. Unfortunately for LG Loyal, an interesting strategy isn't enough to get them the map point as Robert "shadder2k" Mocanu laid waste to LG Loyal with his Genji, which has become better with each map played during the OCS. The set between them went to all five games, with shadder2k along with fellow teammate Andrew "ID" Trulli on Pharah sealing the deal and killing several members of LG Loyal, giving Team Liquid their first win in the OCS.

Hoping to rally from their loss, they would later face off against compLexity, who would have Herman "Nesh" Kobrin filling in the empty spot, playing heroes like Mei and Zarya. Jeremy "Hqrdest" Danton filled in for LG Loyal's Arthur "EISSFELDT" Marx. Hqrdest impressed immediately in this series by playing a very well-executed McCree that stopped all of compLexity's attempts at a flanking DPS on King's Row. Unfortunately, LG Loyal dropped the series after they tied up 2-2 when Alexandre "SPREE" Vanhomwegen mistakenly stepped off of coL's payload, allowing them to push it past LG Loyal's finish line. That mistake cost them the series, and they would finish the week with a disappointing 0-2.

While LG Loyal had to regroup from their loss, LG Evil would win back-to-back sets, sweeping Immortals and compLexity 3-0.

Renegades took down Team Liquid 3-1 after their victory against LG Loyal as Liam "Mangachu" Campbell, Mikkel "Sypeh" Sypeh and Christopher "J3sus" Pavloff proved on five maps (Temple of Anubis was fought to a draw) that a more solid team foundation was better than a few high notes. While Team Liquid's shadder2k continued to be their clutch player, Mangachu's Pharah, Sypeh's Genji and J3sus' Tracer were simply too much to handle.
