According to a recent TwitLonger post written by Unicorns of Love, the organization has been denied scrims by Splyce, Fnatic and Giants. The statement claims that "despite a schedule booked in advance, coaches YamatoCannon [Splyce] and NicoThePico [Fnatic] told us today they are canceling all scrims in order to train together. It leaves us with no scrim-partner 48h before the tournament."
The Unicorns now have a little less than 48 hours to prepare and attempt to find a team that will scrim them before the upcoming European League Championship Series Regional Qualifiers.
Splyce coach Jakob "YamatoCannon" Mebdi responded with a TwitLonger post of his own, stating that Giants were not scrimming with any teams and claiming that was the cause of Unicorn's situation. Because there were only three teams scrimming before the gauntlet, one would ultimately be left out, according to Mebdi.
"I gave UOL a one and a half day notice but in the end it would not matter, because they would not have found anyone to scrim against even if I told them 10 weeks ago," Mebdi wrote in his post. "The Unicorns have my sympathy, but not my regret."
Giants' head coach David Alonso Vicente joined in to provide his team's perspective with a tweet, citing "internal problems within the group" as the reason for Giants not scrimmaging with any teams prior to the gauntlet.
Splyce and Fnatic's scrim exclusivity has been called into question by many, shining a light on the problems with the scrimmage culture in Europe. Teams play a series of five games, and often don't start until 3 p.m., according to Misfits analyst Naser Al-Naqi.
