Betting tips, picks for Western Conference finals Game 2

After an eventful Game 1 in which the Oilers excelled at even strength while the Stars' power play overwhelmed Edmonton's penalty kill three times in a stretch of less than six minutes, both sides are now challenged to make essential adjustments.

Just as Dallas needs to better figure out how to somewhat limit Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl -- who combined for five points in Edmonton's total three-goal effort -- the visitors must decipher how to contain the Stars when they're on the man-advantage. Or not end up in the penalty box in the first place. The team that best works out how to address its weaknesses is more likely to emerge triumphant before the series shifts to Alberta for Game 3.

Bets that stand out

Matt Duchene Total Shots On Goal Over 1.5 (-110). There's nothing like getting that first one. After failing to score in 13 games through Rounds 1 and 2, Duchene finally registered his initial goal in Dallas's 6-3 win over Edmonton. Considering the veteran forward led his squad with 82 points this regular season, including 30 goals, this should bring about a wave of relief along with a boost in confidence. And we don't need the 34-year-old to score in bunches. Or furiously pepper the net. Two shots is all.

Esa Lindell Total Blocked Shots Over 2.5 (+105). Averaging 2.6 blocked shots/game this postseason, the club's top-pair defender is also logging more than 24 minutes/contest. Noticeably, the Stars' regular-season leader in this category didn't block a single shot in Game 1 versus Edmonton. That doesn't happen in two straight. Following his last goose egg -- May 3 against Colorado -- Lindell blocked seven shots in the opener of Round 2 in Winnipeg.

Mikael Granlund Total Player Points Over 0.5 (Even). Whether Granlund contributes on a forward line with Roope Hintz and Mikko Rantanen -- the latter of whom is due after failing to pitch in at even-strength in three contests -- or on the power play like he did twice in Game 1, it all counts the same.

Kasperi Kapanen Total Hits Over 2.5 (-145). While the number isn't all that appealing, Kapanen projects to exceed two hits in a game where the Oilers must ramp up their physical play. Also, look for Leon Draisaitl's linemate to again log 14-15 minutes after being rather limited in the series opener. Which will bring about more opportunities to bang the opposition around.

Parlay: Duchene + Lindell + Granlund = +642
