2024 MLB wild-card round betting guide: Props, picks, futures

The Milwaukee Brewers hope to close out the New York Mets and avoid the upset in Thursday's decisive Game 3. Larry Radloff/Icon Sportswire

The 2024 MLB playoffs are here, kicking off with the wild-card round -- four best-of-three showdowns -- all taking place at the site of the higher-ranked seeds.

The two division winners in each league with the best records (Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Guardians) all get a chance to rest their regulars and set up their rotations for the next round, where they'll square off with the winners of the series outlined below beginning this Saturday.

New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers

American Family Field, Milwaukee; Game 3, Thursday, 7:08 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Zola's series pick: Having RHP Luis Severino available for Game 1 is key for the Mets, rendering the series close to a tossup, which is reflected in the closest odds of the four series. However, three games at American Family Field tilts me to taking the Brewers in three.

Game 1: Mets 8, Brewers 4

Game 2: Brewers 5, Mets 3

  • Game 3 line: Mets +1.5 (-215), Brewers -1.5 (+170)

  • Game 3 money line: Mets +110, Brewers -130

  • Game 3 O/U: 7.5 runs, Over (-110)/Under (-110)

  • Series line: Mets (-320), Brewers (+260)

  • Series result: Mets sweep (+320, going into G1), Mets in 3 (+270), Brewers in 3 (+250)

Zola's Game 3 picks

  • After two games, unlike all the other series, at least eight total runs have been scored in both games. I expect that to continue, so give me over 7.5 total runs (-105).

  • He fell short last night, but since Brewers C William Contreras faces another left-handed starter with Jose Quintana getting the nod for the Mets, I'm repeating last night's bet of Contreras going over 2.5 total hits + runs + RBI (+165).
