That's a big reality check for India ahead of a huge five-Test series against Australia. They still have a Test to play in Mumbai but a series loss here would have dented their confidence big time. Rohit and Kohli's form needs addressing. The middle order also has been all over the place in this series barring a couple of good innings from Sarfaraz and Pant. They still lead the WTC points table but the gap at the top is not a lot now. For New, Zealand, this is a mammoth win and they did it without their best batter around. To no one's surprise, Mitchell Santner is the player of the match: [Changed anything from first inns] Not really. It was harder this time. Kudos to India how they came out. I found it early on in my spell, but I wasn't going to stop. Every time I got a wicket, it got a little better. It was a bit strange for me, but it was important to contribute in the win. Very pleasing for us but we have another game in Mumbai and we have to go again. [Has anything changed as a red-ball bowler?] Probably a little bit. Every time you take wickets, you get a little more confident. I felt that today. The wickets always does that.

Tom Latham, the NZ captain: It is obviously a special feeling. Very proud to be up here. It is a team effort. This game was a clear example of every stepping up at the right times. Very special. When you come here, you want to put your best foot forward. We wanted to stay with our feet out and the way Mitch Santner bowled in the first innings, he was fantastic. He bowled brilliantly in the first and second innings. [Takeaways from SL loss] Thought we didn't play too badly in SL. You look at the result but we did a few good things. We wanted to stick to the basics. We wanted to fire our shots and thought we have done that well. [Talk after day 2] Just wanted to be positive. We put ourselves on the front foot last night. The runs were important. The way GP played in the morning was very important. India came out hot, but we got the breakthroughs. It was a great middle session. Not just mitch but GP and Ajaz. The last three wickets took an age, but it was great.

First up, India captain Rohit Sharma: [On the loss] Disappointing. It is not what we expected. NZ played better cricket than us. We failed to respond to challenges and we sit here with that result. I don't think we batted well enough to get runs on the board. You have to take 20 wickets, but the batters have to put runs on the board as well. We did not put enough runs, then conceded a 100-run lead. It was a fightback from us, but it was always going to be challenging. We thought we could chase but the continuous challenges we could not cope. When they started off, they were 200 for 3 and for us to come back and bowl them 259 was great. It was a not a pitch where a lot was happening, but we did not bat well enough. NZ played better. [Looking forward] We want to show up at Wankhede and win that Test. It is a collective failure. The team has failed to accept the challenge thrown at us.

3.58pm Wow, what have we just witnessed. India have lost a Test series at home for the first time in 12 years. Let that sink in. Not many gave NZ a chance coming in. They had just lost a series to Sri Lanka, their captain had stepped down, their best batter Kane Williamson was not available. But, NZ stuck to the basics, went one better than their Indian counterparts at every step and have taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It's that one man who made the difference - Mitchell Santner. What a Test this man has had! Picked 7 for 53 in the first innings, and came back with 6 for 104 in the second. Was nearly unplayable and was a key reason behind New Zealand winning this game by 113 runs and take a 2-0 lead. Goodness, what a result. Big celebrations in the NZ camp, surely there will be big celebrations will continue late into the night
