Matchup: Atlanta Falcons at Oakland Raiders
Spread: Opened Oakland -6.5; now Oakland -4.5
Total: Opened 48.5; now 49.5
PickCenter public consensus pick: 63 percent Oakland
Public perception: The public was high on the Raiders coming into this season and their thrilling roll-the-dice win at New Orleans probably gained them even more supporters. It doesn't help the Falcons' cause that they laid an egg in losing at home to the Buccaneers.
Wiseguys' view: Sharps have actually been on Atlanta as this line opened as high as Oakland -6.5 at the Westgate. We've even seen it get bet down to Oakland -4 at the Mirage.
Dave Tuley's take: The Falcons, who were my long-shot bet to win the Super Bowl, certainly let me down in Week 1 (luckily I didn't bet them as faves), but I'm not giving up on them yet. In this matchup, I wrote during the preseason and in-season betting previews that the Raiders' defense isn't very good, and it went out and gave up 507 yards. The Falcons should have a lot of success, and their defense isn't great but it's still better than the Saints'. I would count on another shootout and I'll take the points.
The pick: Falcons +4.5*
Mike Clay: I'm feeling pretty strongly about the under in this game. Both of these teams' offenses are being given a bit too much credit after taking advantage of suspect and/or horrendous pass defenses in Week 1. The Atlanta offense has been average or worse in the scoring department over the past three years, and the addition of Mohamed Sanu isn't enough to take it to another level. The Raiders' defense didn't look very good in New Orleans, but this is a talented unit that was unsurprisingly carved up by Drew Brees in the Superdome. Meanwhile, Atlanta was terrific shutting down the wide receiver position last season, which is the strength of the Oakland offense (Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree). Vegas has this as the third-highest-scoring game of Week 2. I'm not buying it.
Projected score: Oakland 24, Atlanta 20
The pick: Atlanta and the under
