Dilson Herrera appears in World Baseball Classic qualifier with Colombia

New York Mets prospect Dilson Herrera went 0-for-2 with three walks, an RBI and a run scored on Thursday as Colombia won its opening game of a World Baseball Classic qualifying tournament 9-2 against Spain at Rod Carew Stadium in Panama City, Panama.

Herrera had departed Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins after fouling a ball off his left knee in the ninth inning, but the Mets let him proceed on schedule to join his countrymen for the WBC qualifier.

Colombia, Spain, France and host Panama are competing for one berth in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Mets farmhand Luis Guillorme, starting at shortstop for Spain in Thursday's game, finished 0-for-5.
