2017 quarterbacks quickly coming off the board

Tate Martell removed himself from the list of 2017 uncommitted quarterbacks on Thursday evening, as the nation’s No. 32 overall prospect announced his commitment to Texas A&M.

While quarterback dominoes usually begin falling in earnest during the spring of the players' junior year, the 2017 class appears to be moving that timeline forward, as already, nine ESPN Junior 300 quarterback prospects have made commitments. By comparison, of the 23 ESPN 300 quarterbacks in the 2016 class, just three had committed to their current school before their junior seasons began.

Martell’s commitment also means that the top two pocket passers and top two dual-threat quarterbacks are committed, with Bailey Hockman pledging to Georgia and Lowell Narcisse and Shawn Robinson committed to Auburn and TCU respectively.

Fifteen uncommitted ESPN Junior 300 quarterbacks remain uncommitted, though it will be interesting to see if Martell’s decision puts any pressure on that group to move their timelines forward.

Ryan Kelley -- the nation’s No. 35 prospect -- now takes over as the nation’s top uncommitted quarterback for his class, while Hunter Johnson and Keytaon Thompson are both top-100 prospects.

Arizona's Braxton Burmeister, Baylor's Kellen Mond, Florida's Jake Allen, Ohio State's Danny Clark and Oklahoma's Chris Robison are the other 2017 quarterbacks who have made commitments.
