Scout's Take: RB John Emery to Georgia

Under Armour All-American John Emery is the latest highly touted running back to select Georgia. Below, see how he fits into the continuous reload of the Bulldogs' backfield.

What he brings: The No. 2-ranked RB in the 2019 class, Emery brings big-play ability. He is a big back who possesses a nice blend of vision, agility and breakaway speed. For a younger back he runs with his eyes, showing patience, ability to read blocks well and explosiveness to get through the hole when he gets a seam. He is decisive, runs with little wasted motion and looks to get downhill with good agility to quickly slip defenders. Emery also possesses the ability to separate once he hits the second level. The four-star can be a well-rounded back with the size and strength to be an effective blocker. He possesses the ball skills to be a productive receiving target out of the backfield, too.

How he fits: Georgia continues to look to keep a deep, talented stable of backs. Despite losing some of the most productive backs in college football in recent seasons, they have managed to recruit excellent talent at the position to keep it a strength. D'Andre Swift is the next man up and the Bulldogs just signed a pair of ESPN 300 backs in their 2018 class, including the No. 1 RB Zamir White. Continuing to build depth, they now add Emery to the mix. Each brings a little something different to the table, but most importantly history has shown that you can never have enough talent as injuries can happen. When they do, Georgia continues to show it will have the depth to carry on without missing a beat.

Reminds us of: While Dawgs fans may see flashes of the next Sony Michel with added lower-body size and power, we see a closer resemblance to recently departed Auburn playmaker Kerryon Johnson at this stage. Emery has that comparable striking burst through the hole and the ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces like Johnson displayed out of Madison Academy in 2015.

How the class is shaping up: The Bulldogs signed the top class for the 2018 cycle and are showing that they can be serious contenders to do so again, especially coming off a big weekend in which they added multiple ESPN 300 prospects. Five-star DE Nolan Smith is an outstanding athlete with the physical tools to be an impactful defender. In-state ESPN 300 DL prospect Tavon Walker is another big addition to their defensive line class. Georgia already has two young and talented QBs on campus but added even more needed depth to the position with ESPN 300 dual-threat QB John Rhys Plumlee. Other potential offensive weapons in the class include Emery and two top-five wide receivers in top-rated Jadon Haselwood -- a long and smooth receiver -- and Dominick Blaylock -- an explosive player with quick hands. Top-five TE-Y Ryland Goede is big and physical but also an agile player at the position. William Norton is a versatile and intriguing big man slated to play on the defensive line, but he possesses even greater upside and impact ability at OT. J ESPN 300 linebacker Trezman Marshall was a nice win in-state and top-ten OLB Rian Davis was a big addition as well to their LB corps.
