Golden State Valkyries center Temi Fagbenle is hitting the big screen in a new Paramount Pictures film that will be in theaters in the future.
Fagbenle, 32, will appear in Gina Prince-Bythewood's "Children of Blood and Bone," which is based on Tomi Adeyemi's New York Times bestselling novel, according to Deadline. She joins a star-studded cast that includes Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo and Amandla Stenberg.
The film tells the story of a young woman on a mission to retrieve magic stolen from her people in an African kingdom.
Adeyemi, who wrote "Children of Blood and Bone" in 2018, revealed the cast of the film with a post on social media. When she got to Fagbenle, the author noted the two were classmates at Harvard University.
"WNBA icon and happens to be one of my classmates from Harvard," Adeyemi said.
Acting runs in the family for Fagbenle. Her brother, O-T Fagbenle, has starred in such TV series as "The Interceptor" and "Presumed Innocent."
According to Deadline, the film is expected to hit IMAX theaters on Jan. 15, 2027.
Fagbenle was acquired by the Valkyries in a December 2024 expansion draft. She averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in the 2024 season with the Indiana Fever.
