Kaya FC holds Tampines Roversto goalless draw

Kaya FC frustrated Singaporean club Tampines Rovers with a 0-0 draw in their AFC Cup Group Stage fixture on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

The favored Singapore-based side dominated possession for most of the match, testing the hosts defensively throughout the evening.

Jordan Webb proved to be a thorn on Kaya's side early on, almost scoring through a breakaway in the 14th minute and almost providing an assist to teammate Irwan Shah in the 22nd. Carlyle Mitchell was instrumental in keeping a clean sheet, after he headed away Shah's goal bound strike from close range.

Jayson Panhay had a chance to put Kaya ahead in the 28th minute, but saw his free kick narrowly sail wide of the post.

The second half saw Tampines continuing to fashion the more dangerous chances. Kaya keeper Michael Louie Casas was forced into a good save against Madhu Mohana just five minutes after the break.

Tampines had a late chance on a Boris Kopitovic attempt. Kopitovic shrugged off the challenge of Simone Rota in the 85th minute, but saw Casas deflect his snap shot.

Kaya held firm for the rest of the match, ensuring that the two teams share points in their second match day.

Casas was understandably happy with his team's defense after the game, ensuring that they have yet to concede a goal in their run in the 2020 AFC Cup so far.

"Before our game we talked to each other, as long as we don't concede we cannot lose," Casas said. "It's our second clean sheet. Hopefully we continue this all throughout the tournament, because we want to go far in the AFC Cup."

The draw means that Kaya FC hold the top spot of Group due to a superior goal difference to Tampines Rovers. The other fixture of the night saw PSM Makassar make light work of Shan United, 3-1.

Kaya FC resume AFC Cup Group Stage action on March 10 when they travel to Indonesia to take on PSM Makassar while Rovers host Shan United.
