      Ryan Wallace penalty brace earns Stranraer a draw

      Stranraer and Albion Rovers shared three penalties in an entertaining 2-2 Ladbrokes League One draw at Stair Park.Alan Trouten twice put the visitors ahead, first with a close-range finish then from 12 yards, but his efforts were cancelled out by a pair of spot-kicks from Ryan Wallace.His second came in the 88th minute, snatching away the prospect of a first victory since September for Rovers.Rovers had captured just one point from the last 18 but Trouten broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, sniffing out the rebound after Cameron Belford's save.Stranraer lost captain Steven Bell to injury but were still able equalise eight minutes from the interval, Wallace despatching a penalty which was disputed strongly enough for Rovers boss Brian Kerr to be sent to the stands.Trouten's 13th of the season followed from the spot after Morgyn Neill's handball but Wallace's power penalty guaranteed a point each.

        Stenny escape basement with victory at Queen's Park

        Stenhousemuir climbed off the bottom of the Ladbrokes League One table with a 2-0 win at Queen's Park.Oli Shaw struck either side of half-time as Stenhousemuir gave their chances of avoiding the drop a welcome boost.The result sees Queen's Park drop off the pace in the battle for play-off places.Peterhead replace Stenhousemuir at the foot of the table after a 4-1 defeat at Livingston.Liam Buchanan, Scott Pitman and Joshua Mullin effectively settled the contest in the runaway champions' favour before the interval.James Redman grabbed a consolation for the visitors in the second half, but Daniel Mullen grabbed Livingston's fourth nine minutes from time.Andy Ryan scored a hat-trick as Airdrie replaced East Fife in the play-off places.Airdrie ran out 4-0 winners against their promotion rivals thanks to Ryan's treble, while Christopher Kane was sent off for East Fife before Iain Russell scored a fourth.Brechin strengthened their play-off hopes with a 1-0 win over Albion, with Paul McLean scoring the decisive goal after 46 minutes.Kevin Cawley scored a last-minute winner for Alloa against Stranraer in a 1-0 victory.

          Stenhousemuir boost survival hopes with much-needed win

          Bottom club Stenhousemuir took a step towards survival with a 3-1 defeat of 10-man Peterhead at Ochilview Park.Striker Rory McAllister saw red for abusing referee David Munro after first-half goals from Alan Cook and Mason Robertson had put the strugglers in front.Jordan Brown pulled one back for Peterhead minutes after the restart, but veteran striker Colin McMenamin restored the Warriors' two-goal cushion shortly after the hour mark.Stranraer came away from their action-packed trip to Airdrieonians with a much-needed 2-1 victory.Craig Morgan headed the Blues in front early in the second half, but soon after his team-mate Morgyn Neil was dismissed when he hauled back Jack McKay in the area.Visiting goalkeeper Cameron Belford was equal to Iain Russell's penalty, however, and the 10 men secured the three points when Ryan Thomson netted 20 minutes from time.Andy Ryan's late free-kick halved the deficit, but could not prevent Aidrie slipping to a third successive defeat, while Stranraer climb to seventh in the table.Livingstone extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points with a 1-1 at Queen's Park.Scott Pittman put the leaders ahead early on before Dario Zanatta equalised for the hosts.Chris Duggan scored both goals, including a stunning volley, in East Fife's 2-0 home win against struggling Albion.The result leaves Albion just one point above Stenhousemuir after five matches without a win, whilst East Fife have leapfrogged Aidrieonians into third.The match between Brechin and second-placed Alloa was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

            Aberdeen 4-0 Stranraer

            Aberdeen coasted past League One strugglers Stranraer at Pittodrie to reach the fifth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup and keep hopes alive of their first triumph in the competition since 1990.Dons manager Derek McInnes showed his intent by fielding the same team which won three consecutive Ladbrokes Premiership matches prior to the winter break, and it turned out to be a long afternoon for the part-timers.Adam Rooney and Niall McGinn both netted in each half as the Dons, recently back from warm weather training in Dubai, won 4-0 in a one-sided contest.Andrew Considine squandered a fifth-minute chance for the hosts when he sent a free header over the crossbar from McGinn's corner.Both goalkeepers were then called into action shortly after, Aberdeen's Joe Lewis saving low down to his right to deny Willie Gibson before Cammy Belford pulled off an outstanding stop to keep out McGinn's header.Stranraer had been fairly comfortable until they fell behind in the 30th minute thanks to a Rooney strike. McGinn crossed to the far post for Jonny Hayes, who rose to nod the ball down for Rooney and his 12-yard shot gave Belford no chance.McGinn quickly doubled the Dons' lead with a well-taken goal in the 34th minute. The Northern Irishman latched on to a Kenny McLean lay-off before before driving a low 16-yard effort inside the far corner of the net.Only good goalkeeping from Belford kept the score down at the interval, which could not come quickly enough for the visitors.When Rooney scored his second and Aberdeen's third five minutes into the second half, it turned into a damage limitation exercise for the Stair Park club, who this week parted company with boss Brian Reid. On-loan Livingston defender Morgyn Neill was penalised for handling a Hayes cross and Rooney converted the resultant spot-kick.There was no stopping the rampant Reds as McGinn lashed in a 14-yard left-footed effort from Andrew Considine's cutback in the 54th minute.Hayes, the subject of two recent failed bids from Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff, was replaced by Peter Pawlett in the 64th minute and Dons supporters will be hoping it was not a farewell appearances from the flying winger.ends

              Malcolm sinks 10-man Fifers

              Craig Malcolm was Stranraer's hero as his last-minute strike proved decisive after a spirited challenge from 10-man East Fife.The striker's left-footed shot from the centre of the box, assisted by Anthony Marenghi, found the top-left corner and settled a tense match.Both sides had begun the season with victories in the Scottish Challenge Cup against higher-league opposition and the confidence derived from that was reflected on the pitch in an evenly-contested first half.The tie was in need of a turning point to break the mould, which duly arrived when visiting forward Kevin Smith was dismissed for a crude tackle on Scott Robertson just short of the hour mark.From there on in the Fifers had their backs firmly to the wall but it was only in the dying seconds that their resistance wilted.

                Winter gives Sons the Blues

                Sean Winter netted a dramatic injury-time winner as Stranraer came from two goals down to stun Championship side Dumbarton 3-2 and book their place in the Petrofac Training Cup second round.The visitors got off to a dream start when Jordan Kirkpatrick's cross drifted straight into the net on four minutes.Ian Murray's men appeared to be coasting to victory as Mark Gilhaney doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time after racing through on goal.But Stranraer captain Frank McKeown's 20-yard strike in the 64th minute gave the League One side hope before his back-post header squared the match up 13 minutes from time.Dumbarton, who made their third substitution in the 63rd minute, were forced to finish the game with 10 men after Colin Nish hobbled off and that proved crucial as Winter's acrobatic finish won it for the Blues in the fourth minute of added time.
