Mohun Bagan won the 2024-25 Indian Super League with a 2-1 win over Bengaluru FC in extra-time, thus also completing an ISL league and cup double for the first time in their history. Bengaluru FC had taken the lead with an Alberto Rodriguez own-goal in the 49th minute, before Jason Cumming's 79th-minute penalty ensured the game finished 1-1 at full time. Jamie Maclaren scored the winning goal for Bagan in the 96th minute, after which the hosts held on for the 2-1 win after extra-time.
Jose Molina's Bagan became only the second team after Sergio Lobera's Mumbai City FC to win the league and cup double, and also the first team to win the ISL Final at home.
The game began with Mohun Bagan on the up, responding to the loud atmosphere at the Salt Lake stadium. However, after Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved a Maclaren shot from a narrow angle, Bengaluru FC started to dictate terms. Sunil Chhetri even had a header cleared off the line by Subhasish Bose, as BFC's dominance was clear with 10 shots in the first half, compared to Bagan's three. There was a penalty shout when Bose saw a cross cannon off his arm, although his arm was close to his body in a natural position, thus ensuring the game went into the break goalless.
It took only four minutes in the second half for Bengaluru's dominance to show, as Ryan Williams forced an opener in the final. He sent in a superb cross that Alberto Rodriguez could only slice into the net, leaving Vishal Kaith no chance. Bagan kept plugging away despite going a goal down and were rewarded in the 72nd minute, when Chinglensana Singh conceded a penalty, after Maclaren's shot cannoned off his outstretched arm as he slid in to block the shot.
Jason Cummings stepped up, and despite Gurpreet diving the right way, his strike was so powerfully and accurately struck into the bottom corner, that the BFC keeper had no chance. Bagan had forced the leveller, and ensured the game went into extra-time. The hosts were firmly in the ascendancy as extra-time began, and Jamie Maclaren made sure in the 96th minute. Greg Stewart sent a low cross into the box, and Sana intercepted, but his touch was heavy and Maclaren pounced. The Bagan top-scorer turned, and shot through Gurpreet's legs into the net to send the Salt Lake into raptures.
The hosts then saw out the rest of extra-time as a weary BFC were unable to lay a glove on the ISL Cup winners, who celebrated with fireworks as the final whistle blew.
