Craig Bellamy said that he was "proud" of earning his first win as Wales head coach after they beat Montenegro 2-1 in weather conditions that the former Liverpool and Manchester City forward described as the worst he had ever encountered.

Early goals from Kieffer Moore and Harry Wilson -- both coming within the first three minutes of the match -- proved enough to secure the victory in Niksic.

"It just didn't let up. I didn't plan for that in Montenegro in early September... The conditions didn't allow the football, it was just impossible," Bellamy said. "We had to battle it out and this group have got that. We had to dig in."

The fixture was due to be played at the Podgorica National Stadium but, after the pitch there was deemed unplayable two weeks before kick-off, the game was moved to the city of Niksic.

"I'm extremely proud. I love this group, I really do," Bellamy said.

"These are the toughest conditions I've been in. Nothing about coming here has been easy. You could have had a lot of excuses about this trip. The change of venue, the travel here, a bus driver who took his time, the conditions, but sometimes you learn from it.

on July 9 having spent the previous two season as Vincent Kompany's assistant at Burnley. His first match in charge against Turkey on Sept. 6 ended in a 0-0 draw.

The 45-year-old played 78 times for Wales in during his career, scoring 19 goals between 1998 and 2014.

At club level, he enjoyed spells at Newcastle United, Liverpool, Man City and Blackburn Rovers.
