Fermín López scored a hat trick and Marcus Rashford hit two goals as Barcelona routed Olympiacos 6-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Barça took full advantage when the Greek champions went down to 10 men after a contentious red card for Santiago Hezze in the second half -- scoring four goals to complete the rout.

It was López's first hat trick of his career and the first by a Spaniard for Barcelona in the Champions League. Lamine Yamal also got on the scoresheet from the penalty spot.

Olympiacos had no answer when Hezze was shown a second yellow card in the 57th minute, despite replays appearing to show he did not make contact with Marc Casadó, who was trying to pull him back.

Just three minutes earlier, the visitors had got back into the game at 2-1 after Ayoub El Kaabi's penalty.

Two clinical finishes from López had given Barcelona a 2-0 halftime lead. The second was set up by 17-year-old Champions League debutant Dro Fernández with a through ball.

"He has potential, you can see today, his dynamic, in front of goal he's so dangerous," Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said after the game. "For us, it's important we have him in our team. He's good with the ball, against the ball he's fantastic for us. He gives us the dynamic we need. And of course he scored two goals in the beginning that were very important for us."

After gaining the upper hand with the extra man the Spanish champions overwhelmed Olympiacos with four goals in 11 minutes -- starting with Yamal's spot kick.

Rashford made it four when he gathered possession 10 yards out and finished clinically at the near post, also notching the sixth after some delicious footwork.

Taking down Pedri's chip forward with the outside of his boot, the England international instantly saw an opportunity from the edge of the area and guided a low effort into the bottom corner with his next touch.

Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, now has four goals in three games in the Champions League this season.

In between his two strikes, Fermín completed his treble when he lashed in a deflected cross first time.

The win will see Barcelona riding high into their first game against Real Madrid this season on Sunday, with the LaLiga champions having beaten their biggest rival all four times they played in 2024-25.

"This is last season, the past. Now it's a different situation," Flick said. "But I always think positive. Of course we are able to win in Madrid. We have a good team. Maybe two players come back. We have this huge victory today, gives us confidence for Sunday. And we will see. We have time to recover and also to prepare for the match.

"Olympiacos made it really good in the beginning. They press us high, we had some problems playing out from the back."
