Internazionale made it three wins from three in the Champions League, overcoming a shaky start to thrash Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0.

Christian Chivu's side followed up wins against Ajax and Slavia Prague with another three points as Denzel Dumfries, Lautaro Martínez, Hakan Çalhanoglu and Pio Esposito hit the target in Brussels.

The Italians have yet to concede in the competition so far, but that could have been different after they were put under intense pressure early in the game, with the Pro League leaders close to a dream start on three separate occasions in the first three minutes.

First Yann Sommer saved smartly from Promise David after a skillful run before Martinez headed Christian Burgess' effort off the line. When that clearance reached Mathias Rasmussen he sent it back where it came from, with Sommer back in position to tip over.

Inter were hanging on and finally found their feet, Esposito turning a good chance wide and Calhanoglu denied by a fine stop. David saw his hopes of a penalty reversed by VAR, but the deadlock was finally broken just before the break.

Martínez forced a corner and Dumfries steered home via a header from Yann Bisseck. Martínez added a second in first-half added time, cutting inside and driving his shot past Kjell Scherpen.

The Serie A outfit now held all the cards and, when Kevin Mac Allister's handball gave up a penalty in the 53rd minute, Calhanoglu converted to put the game to bed.

After missing another opportunity, Esposito made sure not to miss out a third time, converting Ange Yoan-Bonny's cross to make it four.
