India's participation in the Paralympics came to an end as Virender Dhankar finished eighth in the men's shot put F 57 event category with a best throw of 11.62m.
Karamjyoti Dalal, who was the other Indian in action in the women's discus throw F 55 category did not start in the event. Virender had earlier participated in the F 57 category in the javelin throw where he had finished 9th.
This is India's best tally at the Paralympics. They had also won four medals at the 1984 games in New York. Earlier this Olympics, Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Singh Bhati had won Gold and bronze respectively in the men's high jump F42 category. Deepa Malik added a silver in the women's shot put F53 event while Devendra Jhajharia had won Gold in the men's javelin F46 category.
