OSLO, Norway -- Ole Einar Bjorndalen and Linda Tjorhom won season-ending World Cup mass start races Sunday at Holmenkollen.
Bjorndalen took the men's 15-kilometer event in 39 minutes, 1.7 seconds after two misses. It was the Norwegian's 63rd World Cup win -- breaking the career record -- and his third straight this weekend
at the cradle of Nordic skiing.
Roman Dostal of the Czech Republic was second, 12.1 seconds
behind. He also missed two of his 20 targets.
Bjorndalen, who clinched his record-tying fourth overall title
Saturday, topped the final mass start standings ahead of Raphael
Poiree of France, who also was second overall.
It was sweet revenge for the 32-year-old Bjorndalen, who failed
to win a single gold medal at the Turin Olympics as a favorite in
all disciplines.
"The fourth overall feels nicer than the second and third, but
the first is always the greatest," he said.
Bjorndalen finished the season with eight World Cup wins.
Tjorhom won her second race of the season, covering the 12.5K
race in 38:25.2 after missing one of her 20 targets. Sandrine
Bailly of France was second, 12.3 seconds behind the Norwegian,
after three misses.
Martina Glagow, who placed eighth, won the mass start title
ahead of German teammate Kati Wilhelm, who earlier clinched the
women's overall crown.
