Dolphins cut guard Lance Louis

The Miami Dolphins made a somewhat surprising cut Tuesday when they terminated the contract of former Chicago Bears starting guard Lance Louis.

Louis had three years of starting experience, but he didn't look 100 percent during the preseason in his recovery from ACL surgery.

After waiting months for Louis to turn the corner, the Dolphins decided it was time to move on despite not having depth on the offensive line.

Guard John Jerry returned from a knee injury last week and played fairly well in his preseason debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jerry will be the starter, but the Dolphins could scan the waiver wires in the coming days.

The Dolphins released nine players total Tuesday to get their roster down to 75 players. The list includes Louis, linebacker Michael Clay, receiver Jeff Fuller, defensive end Emeka Onyenekwu, receiver Julius Pruitt, receiver Andrell Smith, linebacker Nathan Williams, linebacker David Hinds and fullback Jorvorskie Lane.
