INDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts have lost league-leading kicker Spencer Shrader to a season-ending knee injury.
Coach Shane Steichen said Monday that Shrader will be sidelined after tearing two ligaments -- the ACL and MCL -- in his right knee.
The injury cuts short what was shaping up to be a great season for Shrader, who is tied for the league lead with 13 made field goals (13 of 14 overall).
"I'm just disappointed for him," Steichen said. "He was having a hell of a season, so we'll be with him to support him through this time."
Shrader was injured Sunday when Las Vegas Raiders safety Tristin McCollum collided with him during an extra point attempt in the second quarter of the Colts' 40-6 victory at Lucas Oil Stadium. McCollum was flagged for a personal foul for roughing the kicker.
Spencer fell to the turf and grabbed his right knee after the play, remaining on the ground for an extended period before walking off slowly with assistance from the training staff.
Now, the Colts will be left to find a replacement. Steichen suggested the team would hold a tryout for candidates as early as Tuesday as they prepare for a Week 6 home game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Whether they can find one as reliable as Shrader has been remains to be seen.
"It's going to be very difficult to replace a guy like that," Steichen said. "When you do have a great kicker, [it] definitely eases your mind ... He was lights out for us."
Shrader was named AFC special teams player of the month last week after helping the Colts to an impressive start. Indianapolis has been among the NFL's top-scoring teams all season, in part because of Shrader.
Shrader converted a combined nine field goals in the first two weeks of the season, including a game-winning 45-yard kick against the Denver Broncos.
