LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua will change his jersey number from 17 to 12 this season, the team announced on Tuesday.
The switch comes after the Rams signed wide receiver Davante Adams, who has worn No. 17 while playing for the Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets.
"I grew up a fan of Davante Adams and it's surreal that I'm gonna be lining up with him," Nacua said on Monday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show.
Nacua wore No. 12 as a kid, in high school and in college. Twelve is Nacua's "family number" as it's the number his siblings wore while playing sports growing up as well.
During his rookie season, Nacua talked about the significance of No. 12. He played his first career NFL game in Seattle, in front of "The 12s," which is the Seahawks' nickname for their fans.
"I remember telling [Cooper Kupp], 'Man, I know they mentioned it's going to be loud, and it's going to be crazy, but I'm like, 'They don't know," Nacua said. "Twelve. I'm 12. I'm like, 'That's me.'"
