KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Travis Kelce became the first tight end in NFL history to have a fifth 1,000-yard season on Sunday night in the Kansas City Chiefs' 22-16 victory over the Denver Broncos.
Kelce, 31, was tied at four 1,000-yard receiving seasons with Tony Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski and Jason Witten.
"It's something cool to hang your hat on when the career is over, I would assume," Kelce said. "Right now, I'm just focused on the task at hand. Gonna enjoy this one for a night with the family. Then, from there, just focus on Miami."
Kelce caught a 19-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter Sunday to go over 1,000 yards for the season. He finished with eight catches for 136 yards and a touchdown.
This is Kelce's fifth consecutive season with at least 1,000 receiving yards.
"That's quite an accomplishment. Nobody enjoys a game or works harder than Kelce, so it's great to see this happen to him, and he loves playing the game," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "Those kind of guys, you love to coach, and we're blessed to have a few of those that love the game. I'm proud of Kelce for the time and effort he puts in."
The Chiefs inked the 2013 third-round pick to a four-year, $57.25 million contract extension with $28 million guaranteed before the season.
"He and [Mahomes] have a great relationship, and that's important to get these kind of things done," Reid said after the Chiefs (11-1) clinched a sixth consecutive playoff berth. "Every QB needs a go-to guy, and ours is fortunate to have a couple, but [No.] 87 is a big one for him."
The Chiefs will take on the Dolphins (8-4) Sunday.
