Sources: Ravens tell teams Steve Smith not available in trade

The Baltimore Ravens have told inquiring teams that veteran wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. is not available in a trade, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Multiple teams have contacted the Ravens to ask about the 36-year-old Smith, sources told Schefter. The 15-year veteran announced in August that he would retire after this season.

The Ravens' answer to teams is the same message that coach John Harbaugh conveyed in October when he said "there's no chance" he would trade Smith, who, in turn, has said he would quit if he was traded.

As for Smith's career past this season, his agent this week put his client's odds of retiring at 50-50 despite the wide receiver's public comments about retirement.

"I'm 50-50. I'm not 51 percent or 49 percent. I'm right at 50 percent," agent Derrick Fox told ESPN when he was asked to handicap the odds of Smith returning in 2016.

Smith has been Baltimore's top receiver this season despite being hampered by a back injury. The five-time Pro Bowler enters Sunday's contest against San Diego with 41 catches for 588 yards and three touchdowns in six games this year.

The NFL's trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
