Jawaan Taylor reels in 400-pound grouper (2:19)

Jaguars OT Jawaan Taylor battles a 400-pound fish, eventually reeling in the massive grouper. (2:19)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars open training camp on July 28 at the Dream Finders Homes practice facility adjacent to TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, in a critical season for coach Doug Marrone. The Jaguars have won just 11 games the past two seasons following their surprising run to the AFC Championship Game in 2017 and owner Shad Khan is giving Marrone and GM Dave Caldwell a chance to prove they can turn things around without Tom Coughlin calling the shots. Here is a 53-man roster projection.

QUARTERBACK (3): Gardner Minshew, Mike Glennon, Josh Dobbs

Glennon was signed to add experience in the room, but the Jaguars like Dobbs -- they gave up a fifth-round pick for him in 2019 -- so they'll keep three on the roster.

RUNNING BACK (4): Leonard Fournette, Chris Thompson, Ryquell Armstead, Devine Ozigbo

The Jaguars dangled Fournette in a trade before the draft, yet found no interest and are going to use him as the main back again. Thompson, if he can stay healthy, is a good pass-catcher who excels in a third-down role.

WIDE RECEIVER (6): DJ Chark, Chris Conley, Dede Westbrook, Keelan Cole, Laviska Shenault, Collin Johnson

The Jaguars are counting on Chark to follow up his breakout season with another big year. Cole got more work late in the season and responded, so he should be more involved in 2020. Westbrook played through a shoulder injury last year and the Jags are still waiting on his breakout season. Shenault is intriguing because the Jaguars want to use him all over the field, including possible snaps as a Wildcat quarterback. But without an offseason, expectations should be low for the team's second-round pick.

TIGHT END (4): Tyler Eifert, James O'Shaughnessy, Josh Oliver, Tyler Davis

Eifert has to stay healthy, especially early in the season. O'Shaughnessy is coming off a torn ACL and might not be ready for the opener. Oliver played in only four games as a rookie because of hamstring and back injuries so no one knows what to expect from him in 2020. Davis is a rookie.

OFFENSIVE LINE (9): Cam Robinson, Andrew Norwell, Brandon Linder, A.J. Cann, Jawaan Taylor, Will Richardson, Tyler Shatley, Ben Bartch, K.C. McDermott

Don't be surprised if it's the same starting five as last season, though the Jaguars moved Richardson from right guard to left tackle to push Robinson. Taylor tied for the NFL lead in accepted penalties (15) as a rookie, so avoiding those is his No. 1 priority this season. Bartch, the team's fourth-round pick from Division III St. John's University in Minnesota, will get a look at guard but is likely a year away from pushing for a starting job.

DEFENSIVE LINE (8): Josh Allen, Rodney Gunter, Dawuane Smoot, Taven Bryan, Al Woods, Davon Hamilton, Abry Jones, Lerentee McCray

Trading away Calais Campbell leaves a huge void, but Gunter is a solid player who can play inside and outside. Woods is a mammoth run-stuffer who should shore up the defense's biggest weakness last season. Bryan needs to show more. McCray sticks because of special teams.

LINEBACKER (6): Myles Jack, Joe Schobert, Quincy Williams, K'Lavon Chaisson, Cassius Marsh, Shaquille Quarterman

Chaisson should be the strongside linebacker on first and second downs and then drop down to rush the passer on third downs. Schobert takes over in the middle and Jack moves to the weak side, where he can be more reactive. Quarterman will be a big special-teams contributor. The final spot comes down to Marsh or Leon Jacobs.

CORNERBACK (6): CJ Henderson, Tre Herndon, D.J. Hayden, Rashaan Melvin, Josiah Scott, Chris Claybrooks

Herndon and Hayden are the only holdovers from last season. Hayden has thrived in the nickelback role but he's in the last year of his contract. Henderson was the ninth overall pick and will start opposite Herndon. Claybrooks is a burner who will get the first crack as the kick returner. Undrafted free agent Luq Barcoo is a name to watch.

SAFETY (4): Ronnie Harrison, Jarrod Wilson, Daniel Thomas, J.R. Reed

Two rookies make it: Thomas (fifth round) and Reed (undrafted).

SPECIALIST (3): Logan Cooke, Josh Lambo, Matt Orzech

Same group as last season.
