Most important training camp decisions, questions for every team

With training camp starting, here is a complete roster breakdown for each of the 30 teams, along with the top storylines, decisions and questions to watch over the next three weeks.

Exhibit 10s and two-ways

There are 50 players who have signed a contract with the Exhibit 10, a new type of deal in the most recent collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

A player who is signed to a contract with an Exhibit 10 will receive a bonus up to $50,000 if he signs a contract with the team's G-League affiliate upon being waived from the parent club.

However, there is a catch. A player waived by Oct. 17 must report to his G-League affiliate by Oct. 20 and remain there for at least 60 days to receive the bonus (in addition to the G-League salary). Unlike last season, when a team would incur a salary-cap hit for players with partially guaranteed money who were eventually waived at the end of training camp, an NBA team will not have a cap charge for the bonus money awarded.

A player signed with an Exhibit 10 can also be converted to a two-way contract by the first day of the regular season. The bonus would then be rescinded and the two-way contract would apply.

In total, 44 players have been signed to the newly created two-way contract. Each team can have up to two such players on its roster during the season, with each player not counting toward the 15-man roster. The two-way contract does count against the training camp roster.

A team like the Lakers can call up Alex Caruso to serve on their active or inactive for up to 45 days during the regular season. Besides his $75,000 G-League salary, Caruso would also earn a prorated minimum per-day salary of $4,608 if he is called up. Once the 45 days expire, Caruso would either have to be sent back to the G-League or have his contract converted to a minimum salary. Converting the contract would require the Lakers to have an open roster spot.

A player signed to a two-way contract can also be waived during training camp.

The Bucks waived Bronson Koenig recently, only to owe the former Wisconsin star $50,000. Milwaukee would not incur a cap hit, and the Bucks' G-League affiliate would be responsible for paying Koenig.

Atlanta Hawks

Guaranteed: 12

Non/partial: 7 (Luke Babbitt, Nicolas Brussino, Quinn Cook, Tyler Cavanaugh, Jeremy Evans, Jordan Matthews and John Jenkins)

Exhibit 10: 0

Two-way: 1 (Josh Magette)

What to watch: Scoring off the bench

With the departure of Tim Hardaway Jr. to New York and DeAndre' Bembry (triceps) injured, Atlanta's Achilles heel might not be its starting five but finding a reliable scorer off the bench. The Hawks' options are limited with journeyman Marco Belinelli and rookie Tyler Dorsey.

Boston Celtics

Guaranteed: 14

Non/Partial: 2 (Jonathan Holmes and Devin Williams)

Exhibit 10: 2 (Andrew White and L.J. Peak)

Two-way: 2 (Kadeem Allen and Jabari Bird)

What to watch: Have a name tag when camp starts

The Celtics, a favorite in the East, had a near-complete overhaul to their roster this offseason. Now entering training camp, Boston returns only four players from last year's Eastern Conference finals team. Don't be surprised if the three weeks of training camp extend into the regular season as the Celtics look to establish a new starting five and bench.

Brooklyn Nets

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 1 (Spencer Dinwiddie)

Exhibit 10: 3 (Jeremy Senglin, Milton Doyle and Akil Mitchell)

Two-way: 2 (Billy Ouattara and Jake Wiley)

What to watch: Rookie Jarrett Allen

The No. 22 pick in this year's draft is a mystery after missing summer league because of a hip injury. Now that he's healthy, the three-week stretch in training camp should be a good indicator if Allen is on the bench in Brooklyn when the seasons starts or with the Nets' G-League team in Long Island.

Charlotte Hornets

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 3 (Treveon Graham, Luke Petrasek and Terry Henderson)

Exhibit 10 2 (T.J. Williams and Isaiah Hicks)

Two-way: 2 (Marcus Paige and Mangok Mathiang)

What to watch: Malik Monk

Injured during the draft workout process, Monk (ankle) is still not at full strength. When healthy, he will be playing catch-up to get back to basketball shape, something that could linger during the season.

Chicago Bulls

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 3 (David Nwaba, Diamond Stone and Jarell Eddie)

Exhibit 10: 1 (Jaylen Johnson)

Two-way: 2 (Antonio Blakeney and Ryan Arcidiacono)

What to watch: The college roster

On paper, the Chicago roster is perfect for head coach Fred Hoiberg. The 13 guaranteed players now resemble a roster that Hoiberg had success with at his previous stop, Iowa State. With Robin Lopez, Justin Holiday and Quincy Pondexter as the lone veterans, Hoiberg will now have the ability to implement his style of play with the young roster, including eight players drafted since 2014.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Guaranteed: 16*

Non/partial: 4 (Kay Felder, Kendrick Perkins, JaCorey Williams and Edy Tavares)

Exhibit 10: 0

Two-way: 1 (John Holland)

What to watch: The overcrowded backcourt

Depth is important, especially for a Cleveland team that ranks last in age. However, with an overload of wings following the addition of Jae Crowder, the Cavaliers are faced with a numbers crunch when it comes to minutes.

*Cleveland will need to waive a non-guaranteed contract before Dwyane Wade is signed.

Dallas Mavericks

Guaranteed: 12

Non/partial: 3 (Devin Harris, Jeff Withey and Dorian Finney-Smith)

Exhibit 10: 4 (PJ Dozier, Gian Clavell, Brandon Ashley and Maalik Wayns)

Two-way: 1 (Johnathan Motley)

What to watch: The waiver wire

Dallas can take an aggressive approach during training camp with the waiver wire. With $12.6 million to spare, possibly two roster spots available (including Devin Harris) and ninth on the waiver claim order, the Mavericks should have an eye on the camp casualty list.

Denver Nuggets

Guaranteed: 15

Non/partial: 1 (Josh Childress)

Two-way: 2 (Torrey Craig and Monte Morris)

What to watch: Backup small forward

A hole at backup small forward could see the Nuggets experiment with second-year man Juan Hernangomez at the 3 during training camp. With six power forwards, including two acquired the night of the draft (Trey Lyles and Tyler Lydon), Denver's roster with its bigs is top-heavy.

Detroit Pistons

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 2 (Eric Moreland and Beno Udrih)

Exhibit 10: 2 (Derek Willis and Landry Nnoko)

Two-way: 2 (Luis Montero and Dwight Buycks)

What to watch: The consistency of Stanley Johnson

The starting small forward job is Johnson's to lose during training camp. Johnson, however, has started only seven games in his first two years, and comes off a disappointing sophomore season that saw inconsistent minutes based on his overall production.

Golden State Warriors

Guaranteed: 15

Non/partial: 0

Exhibit 10: 4 (Georges Niang, Michael Gbinije, Alex Hamilton and Antonius Cleveland)

Two-way: 1 (Chris Boucher)

What to watch: The minutes at backup 2: Patrick McCaw or Nick Young

There are not many basketball storylines that will come out of the defending champion Warriors' training camp. One to watch is the competition at backup shooting guard between the veteran Young and second-year player McCaw. McCaw, 21, is in a contract year and coming off a strong summer league performance.

Houston Rockets

Guaranteed: 12

Non/partial: 6 (Chris Johnson, Bobby Brown, Troy Williams, Cameron Oliver, Isaiah Taylor and Tim Quarterman)

Exhibit 10: 0

Two-way: 1 (Demetrius Jackson)

What to watch: The open two roster spots

Houston has two roster spots open with six players on partial/non-guaranteed contracts (not including Troy Williams, who is likely to earn a roster spot). The Rockets need to weigh carrying a backup point guard or staggering the starters' minutes with either James Harden or Eric Gordon at point guard when Chris Paul goes to the bench.

Indiana Pacers

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 1 (Damien Wilkins)

Exhibit 10: 3 (Ben Moore, Trey McKinney-Jones and DeQuan Jones)

Two-way: 2 (Edmond Sumner and Alex Poythress)

What to watch: Running in quicksand

Not only does Indiana have seven new additions but also three new starters: Darren Collison, Victor Oladipo and Bojan Bogdanovic. The Collison addition, along with backup Cory Joseph, has the Pacers with two new faces at the 1.

LA Clippers

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 0

Exhibit 10: 4 (Tyrone Wallace, C.J. Williams, LaDontae Henton and Marshall Plumlee)

Two-way: 1 (Jamil Wilson)

What to watch: Roster spot 15 and staying below the tax

The Clippers spent the summer lining up their contracts to stay under the luxury tax. Now $122,000 below with 14 guaranteed contracts, the team has little wiggle room to keep a 15th roster spot. The Clippers do benefit from the new two-way rule and ability to keep a player on the roster for up to 45 days without a cap hit.

Los Angeles Lakers

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 4 (Andrew Bogut, Vander Blue, Briante Weber and V.J. Beachem)

Exhibit 10: 1 (Stephen Zimmerman)

Two-way: 1 (Alex Caruso)

What to watch: Patience with Lonzo Ball

There is a difference in the competition of summer league compared to what the rookie Ball will face in the preseason and eventually in mid-October. The Lakers probably will throw their rookie point guard into the deep end to see if he can handle the rigors of NBA competition. Even without a veteran backup, Los Angeles should be prepared to throw Ball a life jacket if he does struggle.

Memphis Grizzlies

Guaranteed: 16

Non/partial: 1 (Mario Chalmers)

Exhibit 10: 1 (Jeremy Morgan)

Two-way: 2 (Vince Hunter and Kobi Simmons)

What to watch: The front office

The recent signing of JaMychal Green now has the Grizzlies at 16 guaranteed contracts. Memphis will need to waive or trade one player on a guaranteed deal by the start of the season. With an overload at power forward, former first-round pick Jarell Martin could be a camp casualty.

Miami Heat

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 2 (Rodney McGruder and Okaro White)

Exhibit 10: 3 (Larry Drew II, Matt Williams and Erik McCree)

Two-way: 1 (Derrick Walton Jr.)

What to watch: The big free-agent contracts

There is usually a sense of urgency when a player is in a contract year. As was evident last season, both Dion Waiters and James Johnson put up career numbers and bought into the culture in Miami. Now with both players earning $25 million this season compared to $7 million last season, will the level of financial security have an impact on the court? If it does, expect the Heat to address it in training camp and not wait until the season begins.

Milwaukee Bucks

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 5 (Joel Anthony, Brandon Rush, Gerald Green, Gary Payton II and Kendall Marshall)

Exhibit 10: 1 (James Young)

Two-way: 0

What to watch: Consistent bench scoring

The late additions of veterans Jason Terry, Green and Rush showed that the Bucks have concerns with scoring in their backcourt. Based on the inconsistent play of Rashad Vaughn, all three provide a Band-Aid. Milwaukee would need to waive or trade a player if it elects to keep Rush and Green.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 1 (Marcus Georges-Hunt)

Exhibit 10: 2 (Melo Trimble and Amile Jefferson)

Two-way: 1 (Anthony Brown)

What to watch: The comfort level of Tyus Jones at backup point guard

The recent addition of veteran Aaron Brooks shows the need for Minnesota to have in place a veteran in case Jones struggles with backup point guard duties. Fortunately for Minnesota, starter Jeff Teague has been durable the past five seasons, only missing 17 games, including none last season.

New Orleans Pelicans

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 4 (Cliff Alexander, Jordan Crawford, Perry Jones and Martell Webster)

Exhibit 10: 0

Two-way: 2 (Charles Cooke and Jalen Jones)

What to watch: The comeback of Webster

The last we saw Webster, the then-Washington Wizard was having surgery in November 2015 to repair his right hip. Now two years removed, the 30-year-old has attempted a comeback. If Webster can regain his pre-injury form, New Orleans could have a suitable veteran backup to come off the bench.

New York Knicks

Guaranteed: 15

Non/partial: 2 (Jarrett Jack and Nigel Hayes)

Exhibit 10: 2 (Jamel Artis and Xavier Rathan-Mayes)

Two-way: 1 (Luke Kornet)

What to watch: Jarrett Jack

The Carmelo Anthony trade all but sealed the fate of the veteran Jack. Now with 15 guaranteed contracts (14 before the trade), Jack probably will be a camp casualty. That being said, the three weeks of camp for the veteran should be an audition not just for the Knicks, but for the other 29 teams. With a solid (plus healthy) camp, Jack should not be unemployed for long.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 3 (Jerami Grant, Isaiah Canaan and Semaj Christon)

Exhibit 10: 3 (Markel Brown, Rashawn Thomas and Bryce Alford)

Two-way: 1 (Daniel Hamilton)

What to watch: The third point guard

The Russell Westbrook extension talks, along with the addition of Carmelo Anthony, was the talk at Oklahoma City's media day. On the court, Oklahoma City will need to weigh keeping a third point guard in Christon or Canaan compared to retaining roster flexibility. The $1.3 million contract for Christon becomes guaranteed if he is not waived by Oct. 15.

Orlando Magic

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 2 (Khem Birch and Damjan Rudez)

Exhibit 10: 2 (Troy Caupain and Kalin Lucas)

Two-way: 1 (Adreian Payne)

What to watch: New management

Consider this season a job interview for each player on the roster. With new management in place, every player will be watched carefully to see if they are part of the long-term plan. If not, expect a roster overhaul in Orlando.

Philadelphia 76ers

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 4 (Emeka Okafor, Richaun Holmes, T.J. McConnell and Kris Humphries)

Exhibit 10: 2 (James Blackmon and Jacob Pullen)

Two-way: 1 (James Michael McAdoo)

What to watch: The Joel Embiid rookie extension

There is little doubt what the value of Embiid is when healthy. The "when healthy" part is why Philadelphia should be cautious on extension talks. An extension for Embiid should include an Exhibit 3, which would include language that allows Philadelphia to waive Embiid and reduce the compensation owed in future years if he were to miss a set amount of games because of a foot injury.

Phoenix Suns

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 2 (Elijah Millsap and Derrick Jones)

Exhibit 10: 2 (Peter Jok and Anthony Bennett)

Two-way: 2 (Mike James and Alec Peters)

What to watch: Roster consistency

There was no overhaul with the Suns' roster this offseason. Besides the draft additions of Josh Jackson, Davon Reed (knee) and recent trade of Troy Daniels, Phoenix returns the same roster from a season ago. With familiarity abound, there should be no reason that training camp in Phoenix is run without a hitch.

Portland Trail Blazers

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 3 (Archie Goodwin, Isaiah Briscoe and Anthony Morrow)

Two-way: 1 (CJ Wilcox)

What to watch: The tax cost of keeping a 15th roster spot

The Trail Blazers start training camp with 14 guaranteed contracts, but have brought in two players, Morrow and Goodwin, to compete for a roster spot. Portland would incur an $18K per day tax hit to keep Morrow and $13K for Goodwin.

Sacramento Kings

Guaranteed: 15

Non/partial: 0

Exhibit 10: 2 (Matt Jones and Marcus Williams)

Two-way: 2 (JaKarr Sampson and Jack Cooley)

What to watch: The health of George Hill

The last we saw of Hill, the point guard was battling a left toe injury that saw him miss the majority of Utah's playoff series against Golden State (including 13 regular-season games). Now five months removed from the playoffs, will the old injury linger in his first season with the Kings?

San Antonio Spurs

Guaranteed: 14

Non/partial: 1 (Bryn Forbes)

Exhibit 10: 2 (London Perrantes and Amida Brimah)

Two-way: 2 (Darrun Hilliard and Matt Costello)

What to watch: The post-Achilles return of Rudy Gay

The recovery rate for an NBA player coming off Achilles surgery is not in favor of Gay. As evidenced by Mario Chalmers and Wesley Matthews, getting back on the court and producing at the same level is no sure thing.

Toronto Raptors

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 2 (KJ McDaniels and Alfonzo McKinnie)

Exhibit 10: 3 (Kennedy Meeks, Andy Rautins and Kyle Wiltjer)

Two-way: 2 (Lorenzo Brown and Malcolm Miller)

What to watch: Has the offense changed?

The talent on paper is there for Toronto to be a top-four team in the East. The question is: Will the Raptors revert back to the team that stood around and watched DeMar DeRozan or Kyle Lowry play iso-ball? If it does, expect the Raptors to have the same issues that plagued them last season.

Utah Jazz

Guaranteed 15

Non/partial: 1 (Raul Neto)

Exhibit 10: 2 (Naz Long and Taylor Braun)

Two-way: 2 (Eric Griffin and Nate Wolters)

What to watch: Roster spot 15

The Jazz have 15 guaranteed contracts, not including Neto, a backup point guard. The $1.5 million contract of Neto is non-guaranteed. With Ricky Rubio, Dante Exum and possibly Donovan Mitchell handling point guard duties, Neto could be the odd man out.

Washington Wizards

Guaranteed: 13

Non/partial: 4 (Sheldon McClellan, Daniel Ochefu, Donald Sloan and Carrick Felix)

Exhibit 10: 0

Two-way: 2 (Mike Young and Devin Robinson)

What to watch: The backcourt of the bench

Out are Brandon Jennings and Bojan Bogdanovic, in are Tim Frazier and Jodie Meeks. Both players were acquired to address a faulty bench from the previous year. Now, after missing 124 games in the previous three seasons because of injury, the health of Meeks -- and the development of Kelly Oubre Jr. -- will be key to how far this Washington team can go.
