Belal Muhammad fell short in his first defense of the UFC welterweight championship as Jack Della Maddalena pulled off the upset unanimous decision victory to claim the title in the main event at UFC 315 in Montreal on Saturday night.
With the win, Della Maddalena remains undefeated inside the Octagon. Muhammad, who beat Leon Edwards at UFC 304 to claim the championship, had not lost a fight since January 2019.
In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko retained the women's flyweight title with a unanimous decision win against Manon Fiorot. Before this win, Shevchenko completed her trilogy with Alexa Grasso with a unanimous decision victory at UFC 306 in September. Fiorot, a first-time UFC title challenger, suffered her first loss inside the Octagon.
Also on the card, former bantamweight champion José Aldo lost to Aiemann Zahabi by unanimous decision and immediately announced his retirement. And Natalia Silva established herself as a potential top contender in the women's flyweight division with a dominant unanimous decision win over Grasso.
Brett Okamoto, Andreas Hale and Jeff Wagenheim break down all the action from UFC 315.
