Heading into Sunday at the Masters, Jordan Spieth looked poised to defend his Augusta title, but ...
Hey, I heard anything can happen at the Masters.
- Bonnie D. Ford (@Bonnie_D_Ford) April 10, 2016
... anything, and then some.
The 12th hole
Up by five shots heading into the 12th hole, Spieth quadruple bogeyed, with two shots landing in the water before he hit the green. Needless to say, the Twitterverse was in shock:
Jordan Spieth with a quadruple bogey
First time he's ever made anything worse than double bogey in a major, as a pro

There is no truer phrase in sports. The Masters doesn't start till the back nine at Augusta on Sunday

We interrupt this programming to show "Tin Cup."

#TheMasters pressure is unreal. Hard to watch what's happening to #Speith

Steph Curry fell to the floor during pregame shootaround upon hearing Jordan Spieth put 2 balls into the water. https://t.co/CARFMVIUoL

Bogey, bogey, Quad to start the back 9. I dreamed of one day having Spieth's scorecard. Never thought he'd take mine.

Then, Danny Willett's brother took the audience by storm as play rolled on:
If the boy does what he should, I will be able to say 'I've shared a bath with a Masters winners - brilliant#bbcgolf

Call it a comeback?
When Spieth birdied on Hole 13, some were hoping for a rally:
Now come back and win, kid
- Bruce Arthur (@bruce_arthur) April 10, 2016
This COULD turn out to be the greatest comeback ever... Don't count him out!

I can't even. #Masters
- Cam Cole (@rcamcole) April 10, 2016
Amazing character @JordanSpieth has shown to even compete after that 12th hole. #Masters

But, in the end, it was Willett
Willett became the second Englishman to win the Masters since Nick Faldo:

- Masters Tournament (@TheMasters) April 10, 2016
If you bet on anyone but Spieth, you could be in for a big payday. Willett was 20/1, Westwood was 50/1 this morning.
- Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) April 10, 2016
MVP of the Masters? Zachariah James Willett. If Danny's first child wasn't born a week early, he wouldn't be here right now.
- Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelESPN) April 10, 2016
I love the story #Willett's wife Nicole gives birth 11 days early, clearing his path to Augusta. Talk about clutch, both of them. #Masters
- Chris Fowler (@cbfowler) April 10, 2016
.@Danny_Willett well done that man.... And I new baby that was due today... The name Augusta sounds pretty good.

History will remember this Masters for Jordan Spieth's collapse, but we shouldn't forget Danny Willett's flawless final-round performance.

Torn about Spieth. So mentally tough. But also so twitchy, so tic-addled, seems outstanding candidate for future yips.

Was this the good luck charm for Willett?
Danny Willett's caddie is wearing No. 89 -- the same number Jack Nicklaus' caddie wore 30 years ago this week.
