Let's get one thing straight, now that we have said goodbye to 2020, this is not a challenge to 2021. Like saying, "Welp, it can't be any worse, right?" (forced uncomfortable laughter)
No, this is my attempt at being that light at the end of the tunnel for golf and fans who want to watch compelling golf.
Here are 21 things to look forward to in golf in '21.
1. Tiger Woods will win a tournament. Thanks, Charlie! You're an 11-year-old kid who lit a fire under your dad's booty because he saw himself in you, grinding on the course.
2. Dustin Johnson will win the PGA Championship. Time to start talking career Grand Slam -- and for good reason. Three down, one to go. (Heads up, St. Andrews in 2022)
3. Jon Rahm wins the Players Championship and the U.S. Open. The battle between DJ and Rahmbo for world No. 1 gives us the golf we dream about.
4. Bryson DeChambeau loses ... weight. The Scientist puts on another 25 pounds but realizes he doesn't hit it as far and was too jacked to even fit in the on-course port-a-potty.
5. Justin Thomas wins the Masters. Thanks again, Charlie Woods -- for smack-talking JT into a green jacket. "Oh yeah [11-year-old smack-talk voice], I know a Tuesday night dinner you'll never get to go to! Hahaha!"
6. Patrick Reed wins Team USA's clinching point in the Ryder Cup thanks to an epic rematch against Rory McIlroy that finishes on the 17th hole. U.S. captain Steve Stricker accidentally knocks out a fan while throwing wheels of Wisconsin cheddar cheese into the crowd.
7. Jack Nicklaus shakes the hand of the winner of the Memorial Tournament.
8. Max Homa starts the year ranked 100th, but he ends the year ranked inside the top 50. Homa's Twitter critiques of people's golf swing are the funniest I've seen.
9. Christiaan Bezuidenhout will become the European player who makes Americans rush to Google for pronunciation help, even more than when Louis Oosthuizen burst on the scene.
10. A skinny South African kid (he was born in April 2000!) will make guys stop drinking protein shakes and going to the gym. Wilco Nienaber, at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, can hit it just as far as Bryson.
11. Rory McIlroy wins The Open Championship. Then gets criticized for not winning by enough strokes.
12. Rory Sabbatini wins Olympic bronze medal for Slovakia. When asked to say something in Slovak to the people, Sabbatini faints.
13. Sungjae Im plays 40 events in 2021, saying along the way that "I felt lazy playing only 29 events last season." Im played 35 events in 2019 and 34 in 2018.
14. The 2021 Tour Championship will be a sold-out event for spectators and fans to attend.
15. The 2021 Solheim Cup will be fully attended by fans and spectators, also selling out. The U.S. team takes the cup back.
16. Brooks Koepka will win a PGA Tour event yet still finish the year outside the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
17. The USGA, R&A and Masters admit distance is a problem. So they come up with Rule 10.1.a.1 banning the word "distance" from golf. "After fairly striking golf ball, no mention of distance shall occur. Ever."
18. A player from an HBCU will make it onto the PGA Tour University ranking list and will earn some starts on the Korn Ferry Tour.
19. Xander Schauffele wins the FedEx Cup, and this time he has both of the lowest scores.
20. Viktor Hovland is a captain's pick for the Ryder Cup. Padraig Harrington chooses him for Team Europe. American team befuddled, not realizing that Norway is not a state in the U.S.
21. Golf will not have to pause during any tournaments in 2021. I know it's more of a hope and a prayer, but would our world be such a bad place if we made it through one year without anyone dying because of social injustices? We should all hope from these predictions that, if I go only 1-for-21, the last one is the one I nailed.
