Germany beat India 4-1 in FIH Men's Pro League

Hockey India

The Indian men's hockey team suffered a 4-1 loss against world champions Germany in their FIH Pro League match in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

This is their second loss in three matches, having faced defeat against Spain in the opening match but bounced back to beat the same opponents in the next.

Fulton made changes to the team with injured Harmanpreet Singh and Sumit were left out while Hardik Singh was also rested for the match. In the absence of the captain and vice-captain, Amit Rohidas was leading the side.

Germany started well and converted from their first chance of the match in the seventh minute. It was a lovely attack with Erik Kleinlein receiving the ball and passing it to Florian Sperling who made no mistake in converting the chance.

It didn't take long for India to equalise as Gurjant Singh scored from a close range after superb play by Rajinder Singh. Abhishek did well to control the ball and pass it to Gurjant after a superb run by Rajinder on the right side.

But only a minute later, Germany took the lead again. Raphael Hartkopf's flick was saved by Krishan Pathak but the ball flew up and Thies Prinz was at the right spot to push it in.

The match promised more goals but the next two quarters saw none with Germany defending well as India failed to improve in the attacking third.

The last two goals came in the final quarter with Michel Struthoff converting a penalty corner rebound with a thundering finish and later Hartkopf got the final touch in a scrappy goal.

India and Germany will meet again on Wednesday at 5:15 PM.
