The Indian men's hockey team suffered their third straight loss in the European leg of the FIH Pro League after going down to Argentina 3-4 in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, on Wednesday.
India were hoping to turn their fortunes around after two losses against the Dutch but they were not at their best, especially in the defence.
Argentina started well and quickly took the lead thanks to Matias Rey. A poor clearance from Amit Rohidas and it was followed by a thundering strike by Rey. The ball hit the inside of the post and went in after hitting Krishan Pathak's hand.
India bounced back after 10 minutes when they earned their first penalty corner chance. Captain Harmanpreet Singh unleashed his dragflick and the ball beat the goalkeeper after taking a small deflection.
Argentina made it 2-1 in the 17th minute after Lucas Martinez superb controlled a pass and finished it but post the half-time break, India earned a stroke and Harmanpreet made no mistake from the spot.
Just a minute after the score was 2-2, Santiago Tarazona made it 3-2 after a superb attacking move from the right. India, despite not playing well, had created one opportunity for Abhishek. The initial hit from Jarmanpreet Singh was blocked by the goalkeeper but Abhishek reacted the quickest to the rebound to make it 3-3.
Argentina were not done though as they once again pulled off a superb attacking move right after the break and Lucio Mendez converted from a close range. India pushed in the final few minutes but Argentina held on to the lead to take all three points.
The two sides will meet again on Thursday and head coach Craig Fulton will hope his side break the losing streak.
