Fantasy football waiver wire for NFL Week 10: Duke Johnson among top pickups

Is Duke Johnson a must-add player in fantasy football leagues as we head into Week 10 of the 2020 campaign? Jamie Squire/Getty Images

Last week, the NFL's trade deadline passed with little more than a murmur. Two deals went down on the day of the deadline, with the Dolphins shipping wide receiver Isaiah Ford to the Patriots and later acquiring running back DeAndre Washington from the Chiefs. Roster tinkering, not roster altering.

But that doesn't mean that your ESPN Fantasy trade deadline has to mimic the limited trade movement on the day of the deadline! Part of what makes fantasy football so enjoyable is trading -- heck, even the process of negotiating a trade can be enjoyable (or sometimes an absolute slog). Whether it's a swap of stars, a two-for-one maneuver or an all-out blockbuster that reshapes both rosters involved, trades are unquestionably one of the enjoyable parts of fantasy football.

So here's a reminder: The fantasy football trade deadline is just over two weeks away (depending on when you are reading this), Nov. 25 at noon ET.

If you're wondering when the time is to start making those offers that you hope will push you past the goal line before the deadline, the answer is: now. It's always a good time to propose a trade.

Here are the Week 10 ESPN Fantasy waiver-wire adds.

Week 10 byes: Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets

---

Duke Johnson, RB, Houston Texans (16.5%): With David Johnson leaving the game in Week 9 because of a concussion, Duke Johnson stepped into a prominent role, handling all of the remaining running back carries and adding four catches to bring his total touches to 20 for the day. The Houston depth chart is razor thin at running back, so Duke Johnson figures to be extremely busy if David Johnson is unable to return by Week 10. He's a must-add in all leagues.

Wayne Gallman, RB, New York Giants (18.9%): With Devonta Freeman out, the Giants have continued to rely upon a semi-committee at running back, but it's clear that Gallman is their best option among the fill-ins. He found the end zone for the second straight week on Sunday and handled a team-high 14 rushing attempts. While the ceiling isn't particularly high for Gallman, he's a worthwhile add as a flex consideration in the event that Freeman is out again in Week 10.

Jakobi Meyers, WR, New England Patriots (5.6%): The Patriots' lack of receiving depth is no mystery, but Meyers has stepped up in a notable way the past two weeks. He had the game of his career in Week 9, posting 12 catches for 169 yards and a top-four week amongst all wide receivers in fantasy. That came on the heels of a six-catch, 58-yard effort in Week 8 and he now has 24 targets in the past two games. He's a worthwhile add with Julian Edelman on injured reserve.

J.D. McKissic, RB, Washington Football Team (34.2%): Although McKissic is a running back, his fantasy value derives from being an excellent pass-catcher (he has played wide receiver throughout his career as well). McKissic has at least 10 fantasy points in four of his past five games just from his receiving value alone and should continue to maintain that role going forward alongside Antonio Gibson. If you're looking for a bye-week fill-in or a flex consideration, McKissic is on the radar.

Breshad Perriman, WR, New York Jets (12.5%): Perriman flexed the speed and downfield ability in Week 9 that made him such a useful player in 2019 for the Buccaneers. While ups-and-downs have been a reality of his NFL career, Perriman is now healthy and should be a top-two pass-game target in the Jets' offense alongside Jamison Crowder. A deeper-league add for someone who needs to chase upside, understanding that will come with some shared risk as well.

Kalen Ballage, RB, Los Angeles Chargers (0.1%): Justin Jackson was active in Week 9 but wound up leaving very early in the game because of a knee injury and did not record a single touch. That opened the door to Ballage -- not Joshua Kelley -- being the primary back for the Chargers and finishing with 15 carries and 69 rushing yards plus a touchdown. While Austin Ekeler will eventually return, and it's too soon to tell whether Jackson will be available this week, Ballage would seemingly be in line for a primary role again.

Jordan Wilkins, RB, Indianapolis Colts (7.0%): It's hard to figure out the Colts' backfield right now, as the team looked committed to Jonathan Taylor early in Week 9 before a fumble led to the football equivalent of a timeout for the rookie. Wilkins handled 11 carries in Week 9 -- his second straight game of having a notable role. He's a worthwhile add in the event that he carries a prominent role going forward, even if that feels at times unlikely.

Cordarrelle Patterson, RB, Chicago Bears (3.0%): With David Montgomery being evaluated for a concussion late in Week 9, there's a chance that the Bears will have to find a new starting running back for Week 10. And I'll be honest, I have absolutely no idea who will step up in his possible absence. The team could call up Lamar Miller from the practice squad, but for now, I'll offer up Patterson because he's the most explosive runner of the options on the 53-man roster for now. Monitor this situation throughout the week.

Danny Amendola, WR, Detroit Lions (9.9%): With Kenny Golladay (hip) out, we knew a Lions wide receiver other than Marvin Jones Jr. was likely to step up and see a reasonable role. The answer turned out to be Amendola, who finished with seven catches on 10 targets, showing what he has been on so many occasions throughout his career: a solid fill-in wideout. If Golladay is forced to sit again in Week 10, Amendola will be back on the flex radar.

Curtis Samuel, WR, Carolina Panthers (42.4%): These things we know about Samuel: He's a super-talented player, and he has been hot of late. After two touchdowns in Week 8, he had another nine catches and more than 100 receiving yards in Week 9. The Panthers have two other wideouts who likely will be ranked ahead of him weekly, but if Samuel continues to get the touches he has seen of late, he'll climb those ranks in a hurry. He is a really smart addition to your bench.

Darnell Mooney, WR, Chicago Bears (11.0%): While the Bears have had significant offensive woes of late, Mooney has become a bright spot. He's got speed for days and is coming off an 11-target game in Week 9. He's not a starter by any stretch, but he is a player to monitor and stash on your bench. He'll have his opportunity for field-flipping plays within this offense.
