What you need to know for Monday's games

We tip off the first Monday of the NBA season with another jam-packed basketball slate, this time with 11 games and 22 teams in action.

The intriguing Philadelphia 76ers play the Orlando Magic, looking to stay undefeated on the young season with Joel Embiid getting his first knee-maintenance absence.

The San Antonio Spurs host the Toronto Raptors, potentially giving us another opportunity to see Victor Wembanyama treat the NBA like he's playing on a mini-Nerf hoop in his backyard.

And we'll all be watching to see whether Anthony Edwards, who left Sunday's game in the first quarter with a tight hamstring, will be able to get back on the court for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a huge early-season rivalry game against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Let's dig further into the action and find some fantasy streamers and betting angles to work with to get your basketball week started off right.

Monday's fantasy stream team

Tre Jones, PG, Chicago Bulls (available in 75.3% of ESPN Leagues): Jones is starting and getting a major run in the Bulls backcourt with Coby White sidelined to start the season. Jones has responded with near-double-doubles in each game, putting up 12.5 PPG and 8.0 APG through his first two. Of more value to fantasy squads, Jones also has eight steals and three 3-pointers in those two games, rounding out his contributions in harder-to-fill categories. On Monday, he faces Trae Young and a beatable Atlanta Hawks defense.

Cedric Coward, SF/SG, Memphis Grizzlies (57.0% available): Coward has started his rookie season with a bang, notching double-digit scoring in all three games in his role off the bench. This included a scoring explosion on Saturday, where he scored 27 points in 24 minutes in a win over the Pacers. On Monday, he will try to replicate his strong play against the Warriors.

Ajay Mitchell, PG, Oklahoma City Thunder (71.7% available): Mitchell has been consistent to start the season, scoring at least 14 points in all three games thus far and has averaged 18.7 PPG overall. Mitchell has a larger role in creating on the perimeter this season, perhaps in part due to the absence of Jalen Williams. Williams has already been ruled out for today's game, so Mitchell should maintain his role against the Mavericks.

Grayson Allen, SG/PG, Phoenix Suns (76.0% available): Allen continues to start in place of the injured Jalen Green, who has already been ruled out for Monday's game against the Jazz. Allen has scored in double-figures with five-plus assists and at least three 3-pointers in every game thus far. On the season, he has averaged 15.7 PPG, 5.7 APG and 3.7 3PG.

Dre's bets for Monday

Philadelphia 76ers +5.5 vs. Orlando Magic

The 76ers are quietly off to a very good start this season. They've won both games, and they've done it with Paul George sidelined and Embiid giving them very limited production with a minutes limit. Tyrese Maxey is playing at an All-NBA level and rookie lottery pick VJ Edgecombe is throwing his hat in the ring as a serious early challenger for Rookie of the Year. The Magic, on the other hand, have played all three games at home thus far and are 1-2 against only moderate competition. Embiid is out on Monday, but the game is in Philadelphia and all they have to do for this bet is keep the game close. I think they can do at least that, and have a solid chance to win outright.

Victor Wembanyama 4-plus blocks (-190)

Wembanyama has been the gift that keeps on giving to start the season, so I could have gone any number of ways with this prediction. I like his points prop (over 28.5 points, -120) since he has scored at least 29 points in all three games and is averaging 33.3 PPG on the season, but I instead focused on the defense. Wembanyama has averaged 6.0 BPG in his first three contests, including 15 blocks in his last two games. To those feeling more aggressive, I also like Wemby for 5-or-more blocks at plus money (+125).

Zion Williamson OVER 26.5 points (-105)

Williamson has scored exactly 27 points in each of his first two games this season, but could be poised to do even more on Monday because for the first time, he won't be facing a dominant shot-blocker. To start the season, Williamson has had to contend with Jaren Jackson Jr. and Wembanyama, who combined for 15 blocked shots in those two games. It speaks to Williamson's aggressiveness that he still managed to get his paint points and score at this level despite the elite defenders. Monday's opponents, the Celtics, don't have nearly that type of detraction in the middle and are also on the second half of a back-to-back, so Williamson has a good opportunity to have his best scoring game of the season so far.

Nikola Jokic to record a triple-double (+120)

After averaging a triple-double last season, Jokic has notched triple-doubles in both games so far. And he has done so despite struggling with his shot, making only 13 of his first 31 field goal attempts. At this point, the expectation should be that Jokic will notch a triple-double more times than not, but the bet is still available at plus-money, making it a good value bet.

Portland Trail Blazers -2.5 vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Trail Blazers have had a tough schedule to start the season, and they are still dealing with the fallout of their head coach being suspended for allegations of off-court activity. But they have still established themselves as a tough team to beat, blowing out the Warriors and losing two tough games to the Timberwolves and Clippers. Both teams tonight are on the second half of back-to-backs, but the Lakers are without both Luka Doncic and LeBron James. They won on Sunday due to Austin Reaves exploding for a 51-point near-triple-double, but it is hard to expect him to play at that level for two straight games. The Trail Blazers are the deeper team at the moment, and even on the road, this is a game they should win comfortably.
