Seven professional Overwatch players were hit with punishments Friday as the Overwatch League brought its new discipline tracker online.
Four of the sanctions were assessed for account boosting.
"As players join the Overwatch League, the league office conducts a full review of their conduct and, where appropriate, takes disciplinary action," the league said in a statement. "While the league reviews each case on its own, key factors informing the level of discipline include both the severity and recency of the actions under review. During the season, the league office will continue to evaluate infractions and take action as needed."
Damon "Apply" Conti of the Florida Mayhem, Kelsey "Colourhex" Birse of the Boston Uprising, and Park "Viol2t" Min-ki of the San Francisco Shock were each suspended two games for account boosting. Cai "Krystal" Shilong of the Hangzhou Spark was also punished for account boosting but got just a one-game ban.
Lee "Rise" Won-jae of the Guangzhou Charge was fined $1,000 for account sharing.
Riku "Ripa" Toivanen of the Los Angeles Gladiators was suspended five games for throwing matches and "toxicity."
Se-Hyun "Neko" Park "Neko" Se-hyeon of the Toronto Defiant was suspended three games for selling an account and obstructing the OWL's investigation.
In South Korea, boosting is now an official crime, meaning that these players have gotten off lightly with just bans of a few games.
The announcement stated that the list "does not include players who are not currently under contract with an Overwatch League team but might face suspension or fines should they return to league play. In addition, players who have previously served penalties while playing in Contenders are generally not subject to further discipline upon joining the Overwatch League."
The 2019 Overwatch League season starts Feb. 14 at Blizzard Arena in Burbank, California. The league carries a $5 million prize purse, with $3.5 million to be distributed based on playoff results.
Twenty teams, including eight expansion squads, will participate in the OWL's second season.
