Riot Games Korea announced on Thursday that all remaining LoL Champions Korea matches, including the final week of regular season play, summer playoffs, and the LCK Regional Finals will all be held online.
"LoL Park has been operating under strict safety guidelines since spring, and all spaces used by athletes, their headsets, microphones, etc. are disinfected before and after use or covers are replaced when needed," their Twitter statement read. "Nevertheless, as the spread of COVID-19 has recently worsened around Seoul, we believe stronger preventative measures are necessary to ensure the safety of players and league members."
Riot also cited an increased safety level in Incheon as the reason why they will also not hold the 2020 LCK Summer Finals at their Incheon venue as initially planned.
Referees will be sent to team houses to ensure competitive integrity and will be subjected to temperature checks as well as mandatory mask and hand sanitizer usage. Any broadcast personnel at LoL Park will also undergo rigorous safety measures and the analyst desk segments have been cancelled until further notice.
South Korea announced 288 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, most of which were in the Seoul metro area. This past week the KBO closed baseball stadiums to fans once again after opening at 10 percent audience capacity on July 26.
