Hearthstone pro Liooon becomes first woman to win BlizzCon title

Xiaomeng "Liooon" Li swept Brian "bloodyface" Eason 3-0 to win the Hearthstone GrandMasters 2019 Global Finals on Saturday at BlizzCon in Anaheim, California.

Liooon became the first woman to take home a title at BlizzCon across all Blizzard games. She also is the first woman to win a major Hearthstone tournament.

"I want to say for all the girls out there who have a dream for esports competition, for glory, if you want to do it and you believe in yourself, you should just forget your gender and go for it," she told the crowd after the match.

Liooon, from China, took home the $200,000 grand prize, while bloodyface won $100,000. She closed out the victory when her Highlander Hunter defeated his Quest Druid in the third round, completing a sweep of the best-of-five series.

Earlier Saturday, Liooon defeated Kevin "Casie" Eberlein 3-2 in the semifinals, while bloodyface advanced with a 3-2 win over Gao "Leaoh" Yang.

Leaoh and Casie each took home $50,000 from the $500,000 prize pool.

Casie and bloodyface each reached the semifinals by prevailing 2-1 in decider matches to finish group play Saturday morning. Both had survived a day earlier in an elimination match.

Third-fourth: $50,000 -- Kevin "Casie" Eberlein, Gao "Leaoh" Yang

Fifth-sixth: $25,000 -- Kim "Surrender" Jung-soo, Christos "Fenomeno" Tsakopoulos

Seventh-eighth: $25,000 -- Francisco "PNC" Leimontas, Chen "tom60229" Wei Lin
