Donovan "TekKz" Hunt, 17, is the first ever ePremier League champion after defeating Kyle "KyleLeese_" Leese 6-2 in the grand final.
TekKz, who represented Liverpool F.C. the team he has supported all his life, entered the tournament as the clear favorite, coming in as the highest ranked Xbox One player in the world. His route to the final wasn't as easy as he had perhaps hoped, with some close matches throughout the knockout stage, but once he made it to the grand final he made it look easy.
After winning the coin toss, TekKz decided to play on the PlayStation 4 -- the console he doesn't play on -- first before switching to the Xbox One for the second leg. While many expected the first leg to be the closest portion of the final, TekKz made switching consoles look easy, taking a 4-1 win, before switching to the PS4 to secure the championship with an aggregate score of 6-2.
The final may have been a bit of a blowout, but the latter stages of each console competition offered some incredible matches. In the PS4 final Manchester United's Leese took down Jas "Jas1875" Singh 3-2 in an extremely close final. Both players had chances to win the match before KyleLeese_ finally took the victory to claim the PS4 title.
The Xbox One final was certainly the best match of the entire competition. TekKz found himself down 0-2 in the opening minutes of the first leg against Fulham's Diogo 'SCP Diogo' Mendes. After some incredible back-and-forth action, and some very late goals, the two were even at 3-3 at the end of the second leg, forcing extra time. Things looked to be heading to penalties before TekKz flicked the ball up, crossed it into the box and powered it into the back of the net with a header. With no time left on the clock TekKz was crowned champion of the Xbox One competition.
TekKz's only loss in the competition came in his first match of the group stage, losing 4-3 to Manchester City's Connor "iBattle Cat" Keys.
The win gives Liverpool their first Premier League title in TekKz's lifetime, even if this one is in the digital world. With no prize money on the line, and TekKz already having more than enough FIFA Global Series points to qualify for the eWorld Cup, he was playing for club pride, and managed to deliver it to his boyhood club.
TekKz now sits at 9,895 FIFA Global Series Points, further securing his place at the top of the Xbox One rankings. The second-place player in the rankings, reigning world champion Mosaad 'Msdossary' Aldossary, has 3,844 points.
