Longzhu Gaming swept Samsung Galaxy 2-0 to secure first place on Week 9, Day 5 to close out League Champions Korea play on Sunday in Seoul, South Korea.
Longzhu Gaming (14-4, 31-13 match record) and Samsung Galaxy (13-5, 29-15 match record) had a lot riding on this game. Winner would go straight to the LCK Summer Playoff Finals. Loser will have to play the winner of Afreeca Freecs (10-8, 27-21 match record) and SK Telecom T1 (13-5, 26-15 match record), then KT Rolster (14-4, 29-15 match record) for a trip to the Grand Final. Despite facing the World Champion runner-up in Samsung, Longzhu completed what has been a surprisingly dominant season with an exclamation point of a win.
Game 1 was fairly one-sided for Longzhu, who showed few signs of weakness after having some serious struggles against KT Rolster at the beginning of the week. Samsung looked lackluster until the late game, but even then its overconfidence after securing a Baron essentially negated the comeback. Every member of Longzhu looked dialed in to take home a clean series victory, and that's exactly what happened. Support Kang "GorillA" Beom-hyeon led the way with his 1/1/12 performance on Taric, using the Protector's full kit to give his team the edge needed to pick up the win.
Samsung found a slight early game lead in Game 2, but that was merely due to a Longzhu misplay rather than something nice by Samsung. Things changed rapidly once the midgame hit, as Longzhu simply started popping off and wiping Samsung off the face of the Rift. Longzhu went on to complete the sweep, led by mid laner Kwak "BDD" Bo-seong who grabbed the Game 2 MVP for his 9/0/20 series KDA (kills/deaths/assists) showing on Galio.
Longzhu Gaming has secured its bid to the LCK Summer Playoff Final, while Samsung Galaxy is locked into the third place and will play the winner of Afreeca Freecs and SK Telecom T1 on Tuesday, August 15 at 4 a.m ET.
