Luminosity Gaming has acquired a second Overwatch team from Hammers Esports and will brand its new team as Luminosity Gaming Evil and its original team as Luminosity Gaming Loyal.
Luminosity purchased the team's contracts from Hammers for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition, which brings the North American Overwatch team of Jake "JAKE" Lyon, Rasheeq "train" Rahman, Matthew "Voll" Wallace, Matthew "super" DeLisi, Robert "rob420" Garcia and Connor "Avast" Prince to the Canadian organization, makes Luminosity one of the first teams in North American Overwatch to hold two teams in the esports game.
"Luminosity Gaming offers resources, opportunity and stability that Hammer's simply can't right now," Avast told ESPN about the acquisition. "I don't think anyone expected us to grow as fast as we did in terms of both our play and ranking."
With the acquisition, the team will tout a new, green color scheme on its jerseys, in contrast to Luminosity's normal blue and white.
The team is currently competing in the online Overwatch Carbon Series each week, where it's sister team Luminosity Gaming Loyal also competes. The former Hammers team currently holds first in the league and is the only team in the league with an undefeated record after wins over compLexity Gaming, Team Liquid and its sister squad.
"We're excited to have a sister team in [Luminosity], they are great guys with talented players who we've always respected as a team," Avast continued. "I'm sure our team's relationship with them will only grow stronger with this switch. I hope that with Luminosity's support we can continue to grow as a team and be the best team in the world."
