Orbit are going to the Rocket League Championship Series Season 2 Grand Finals as the second seed from North America. For most of the season, they were seen as the best team before falling at the last hurdle to NRG Esports. Orbit were also one of the most efficient teams in Rocket League.
There's a certain way almost every team plays to a point, a way every team rotates to conserve boost and keep the flow of play going in a favorable direction. Orbit tend to be one of the best teams at that; having been around a long while -- about seven months -- their synergy is expected. Not only do they allow very few shots (6.66 per game), Orbit has the best save percentage in the world, with an impressive 71.6 percent. All of this together leads to an astonishing 1.52 goals per game.
Orbit's pressure isn't offensively footed like FlipSid3 or Northern Gaming. Rather, they press the ball and defend in midfield. Their style is very reliant on midfield control, with passing and dribbling creating more goals than blind shots. This style is exemplified with Orbit's 30.8 shooting percentage, putting them third best in the world.
One of their key strategies relies on Isaac "Turtle" App, who carries the ball forward before passing or shooting. A lot of those passes end up back with Garrett "GarrettG" Gordon, who scored the second most goals per game during Season 2. While Caleb "Moses" Nichols doesn't necessarily carry the ball forward as much as Turtle, nor does he receive as many of the passes as Garrettg, he tends to do a lot of the dirty work. In Rocket League, you receive points amongst your team (not counted towards the score of the game) for things like clears and centers, and despite scoring less than the other two, Moses averages a second place finish on the scoreboard doing less glamorous work.
