Goa beat Jamshedpur 1-0 in ISL
Victor Rodriguez's 82nd-minute goal sent FC Goa back to the top of the ISL, as they beat Jamshedpur FC 1-0 at Fatorda on Monday. Manolo Marquez's side remain unbeaten in the league, and have now won five games out of their first six.
It was an eventful end to the game, as Len Doungel thought he'd equalised for Jamshedpur only for the goal to be disallowed due to Alen Stevanovic being in an offside position. A few minutes later, Jamshedpur also had a shout for a penalty denied, due to Stevanovic being offside again.
Seeds progress at men's boxing nationals
Sagar of RPSB (92+kg) and SSCB's Sachin (57kg) were the big names to progress on day two of the men's National Boxing Championships in Shillong today.
Sagar, who won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, had an easy outing as he beat Uttarakhand's Shubham Singh via RSC. He will next face SSCB's Satish Kumar on Tuesday in a round of 16 clash. Unlike Sagar, Sachin fought through all three rounds to claim a unanimous verdict win over Punjab's Vishal Kumar. The 2021 World Youth gold medalist will next take on Rajasthan's Roshan Saini tomorrow.
Reigning World Youth champion Vanshaj (63.5kg) of SSCB was also among the winners as he defeated Ashish of All India Police (AIP), while three-time national champion Varinder Singh (60kg) of RSPB clinched a unanimous decision win over Maharashtra's Vishal Nupe.
Hello, Garnacho
Why not kick off the morning with some essential reading, courtesy Anirudh Menon? It might not be strictly Indian sports, but even a neutral would be able to appreciate the jaw-dropping bicycle-kick goal from Alejandro Garnacho in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Everton in the Premier League yesterday.
The goal evoked memories of Wayne Rooney's famous overhead-kick against Manchester City and the celebration was Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark 'SIUUUU' - but this goal was all, 100% Alejandro Garnacho - which is why it was ESPN India's Moment of the Weekend.
We will also bring you the best stats from European football for the weekend, with Anish Anand casting a curious eye over all manner of numbers.
