Neeraj Chopra spearheads a strong challenge in athletics for India on Monday, while team events in table tennis and squash see other challenges for India. The highlight of the day however should be PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal in the women's singles semifinals.

Badminton blockbuster to start the day

Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu have already won India's first individual medals in badminton since 1982, when Syed Modi won bronze in the men's singles event in New Delhi. Monday provides India's top players with a chance to have a shot at another final, as Sindhu faces world no. 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Saina's plays Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying, world no.1 (Tai has won their last nine meetings) in both their respective semifinals.

Can Neeraj Chopra follow up on his Commonwealth gold?

Potential medal prospects for India feature in seven events in the track and field on Monday. Jinson Johnson leads the charge on the first day of heats and semifinals in the men's 800m. However, all eyes will be on Neeraj Chopra, gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games in April in the javelin throw. Chopra's best of 87.47m is still almost four metres less than the personal best of Chinese Taipei's Cheng Chaotsun, but the latter's season-best throw has been 81.69, which gives the Indian the edge.
