Asian Games W2W4: Shooting stars eye gold, kabaddi classic awaits on action-packed Day 2

PV Sindhu vs Akane Yamaguchi headlines the Day 2 action for India in the team event of women's badminton, while the men's kabaddi and hockey teams have contrasting matchups lined up. Shooting will serve up four medal events on Monday.

The Indian men coasted to a 3-0 win against Maldives in badminton on Sunday, but the women get to face difficult opposition straight away in the team event.

India face Japan in the quarterfinals, which means the likes of Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara will renew acquaintance with PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal. Considering how close the contests involving these players have been, the most crucial rubber for India could be the doubles, featuring Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy.

Medals galore on offer in shooting

Manavjit Sandhu is top of the men's trap qualification, while Shreyasi Singh is placed second in the women's trap event after the first day of action. Both will get a chance to push for medals, as the second day of qualification coincides with the finals on Monday.

Monday will also see the finals of the marquee events in rifle shooting -- the 10m air rifle for both men and women. Ravi Kumar and Apurvi Chandela have already tasted success by bringing home India's first medal of these Games, and a medal in the respective individual events would only add to their repertoire of exploits.

10m air rifle men's final and 10m air rifle women's final: 8:45 AM IST onwards

Men's trap final: 1 PM IST onwards

Women's trap final: 3 PM IST onwards

Potential men's kabaddi classic

Indian men and women both got off to comfortable starts in kabaddi. They resume their campaign on Monday, with the women facing Thailand. The men take on South Korea -- the only team India lost to en route to winning the 2016 World Cup. With a bulk of their players part of the Pro Kabaddi League as well, expect the Koreans to give it their all in an attempt to prove that the Ahmedabad victory was not a one-off.

India vs. South Korea, men's preliminary: 3 PM IST onwards

Swimmers look to build on a good start

Indian swimmers don't have a great record at the Asian Games, but the opening-day feats of Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj -- who both qualified for the finals -- should spur them on. Monday will see Indian participation in the 4x200m freestyle medley, 200m individual medley and 50m backstroke, with Prakash featuring in the first and Nataraj in the last of those events.

Swimming: 50m backstroke heats, 8:22am onwards

Goal buffet in prospect for men's hockey

India begin their men's hockey gold defence against hosts Indonesia, a team that, just like their women counterparts, don't have enough competitive points to warrant a world ranking. Expect goals to flow freely, and for head coach Harendra Singh to experiment by giving his younger players more exposure in this game.

Men's preliminary, India v Indonesia: 7 PM IST onwards
