9:59pm And that will be a wrap from us. But in less than 24 hours, we will do it all over again, with the tournament hosts India taking on the defending champions, Australia. That promises to be a cracking contest too, and we would love to have your company for it. Until then, from Chandan, Miller, Thilak, Vairavan and myself (Shashwat), it is goodbye. Take care, folks!
Laura Wolvaardt, chatting to the broadcaster again, this time as South Africa captain: (On her emotions) Very special. Everyone is really excited. Having lost to this opposition in two previous editions in the semis, it really hurt the group. Really pleased to get the win tonight. (Memories of 69 all out and if that featured in their mind) It did a little bit. Same opposition, same venue, your mind automatically goes back to your game. Losing the toss was not the worst thing in the world. Would have bowled first, but worked out pretty alright. Not sure it was enough runs, really happy the way our bowlers bowled. It was a game of partnerships. Taz and I started really well. Then we lost a couple of quick wickets. Kappie was amazing, taking the pressure off me. She kept going (even when I slipped under run-a-ball). With the last ten coming, I thought I better have a swing. They (England) were 1-3, definitely did not expect that. Kappie was phenomenal. Amazing to see her bowling like that. What she offers with the bat, she is like a two-in-one player and that is amazing. Very special (to be history-makers). The way this tournament is played out (with everyone playing everyone else), very fair way. We have played some really good cricket, and proud of the group. (On the final) That will be an amazing game either way. If it is India with that crowd or world champions Australia. We will celebrate tonight and then go to the drawing board.
Nat Sciver-Brunt, England captain: An incredible two innings from South Africa. We were not at our best today and to beat the best teams, you have to put a whole game together. Did not do that and hugely disappointed. Will take a bit of time to sink in. (On if the three quick wickets in the middle overs got them back into the game) Definitely. I also think, during the powerplay and afterwards, we did not let the game go too far. Were happy with the control we had. Knew with a wicket at one end, we could make inroads, which we did. But they got a partnership together (after that). She (Wolvaardt) assessed the conditions, knew what she was doing, and some explosive batters coming in as well, making it difficult for us. We stuck at it really well as a side, did not let the occasion get to us in the field. Really pleased with everyone's energy throughout those 50 overs (of fielding). Kapp bowled some brilliant deliveries. With the start they had, we wanted to emulate that. Was not as easy trying to bat the way Wolvaardt did. Not ideal losing three very quick wickets and that made the chase difficult from the start. The way Capsey and I put the partnership together, we got to a similar situation (to South Africa) but needed to do that a lot longer than we did. We have come a long way since the summer. Different side since then, and learnt a lot about ourselves. This will hurt, but hopefully, in time, we can take the learnings from it and move forward. Really exciting where we can go but to beat the best teams, you have to be at your very best.
Laura Wolvaardt, Player of the Match: Still feels a bit unreal. Sort of thing you dream about - scoring hundred in a World Cup, and in a knockout game. Special day. We knew the start would be crucial. Taz(min Brits) and I have been strong at the top, and when we bat well, it feeds off (the rest of the order). We identified early that it was a decent wicket, so wanted to keep going. Good support from other batters in partnerships too. Nice we got to a big score, because it was a pretty flat wicket in the end. (On her bating plan) Just going with it (the flow and momentum). In the back of my mind, knew I had those shots. Wanted to go till the 40th over (to allow Tryon and de Klerk to then accelerate in the back ten), and then, while I was there, thought might as well try to whack a few. (On where this innings ranks) Has to be at the top. Context of the game, World Cup semi-final, winning a game against a strong side, strong bowling line-up, has to be right up there.
9:34pm A commanding and clinical display. Just when it mattered. And against a team that had caused them so much pain, weeks ago, three years ago, and even eight years ago. The South African camp, players and support staff included are, understandably, emotional, with hugs and embraces going around. It was an evening where they needed to do well, just to erase memories of the past, and they had their two stalwarts (Kapp and Wolvaardt) stand up, and stand up in some style.
Getting 320 was never going to be easy, and Kapp made that an extremely arduous task, removing Jones and Knight in the innings' first over. Khaka then accounted for Beaumont and it was always a long way back for England from it, despite Capsey and captain Sciver-Brunt registering fifties. Kapp finished with a five-wicket haul , with the others also chipping in nicely.
Spare a thought for England. They were very good through the group stages but when the pressure was amped up, they just could not cope. Something for them to go back and brood over but tonight belongs to South Africa, and their fans will hope that this World Cup, in a few days' time from now, belongs to them too.
