6.23pm Wow. What a display. England will need a record chase of 320 to beat South Africa in their third consecutive World Cup semi-final, but to do that, someone will need to match the impact of the sensational Laura Wolvaardt! Her wonderful 169 - 100 runs more than her team managed in the tournament opener against these same bowlers - has set her side up in perfect fashion. She added 116 at the top with Tazmin Brits, then 72 with Kapp, but it was once Sophie Ecclestone had bowled out that she utterly cut loose. England might have expected to be chasing barely 200 at one stage, having grabbed wickets in clusters at key moments of the innings... but the depth of SA's batting came to the party to obliterate the death overs.
Brits: "I'm glad I witnessed a knock like that. A skipper's knock for sure. We showed more intent, I was struggling but Wolfy was making it easier for me. Definitely a batting wicket. Might move more under lights and stay low. We'll stick to basics, line and length, hug the stumps. We said it's a 270 wicket so we are chuffed with 320. Definitely defendable."
I'll say. That is quite the statement from South Africa. How will England respond? Find out with Shashwat after the break.
Ananth: "117 runs from last 10 overs.. it was carnage.. this match is going to be special either for skipper's knock or record chase but i am hoping for the former "
Bhaskar : "De Klerk of 2025 is the Klusner of 1999." Don't go invoking such names in a semi-final!
Deepak: "Laura Wolvaardt has pulled off an Harmanpreet on them. Her knock doesn't deserve to end on a losing note. I clearly know now which team I am rooting for! Go South Africa!!!" Too right...
One over to go. De Klerk with licence to have a swing, and some!
