4:32pm An innings of three phases. Bangladesh did all the early running and had Sri Lanka 57-5 at one stage. Then, there was a mammoth partnership between captain de Silva and Kamindu Mendis. Both of them punished the loose balls on offer and kept things ticking with smart running between the wickets, eventually stitching together a 202-run partnership.
Neither of them, though, could go on after their respective centuries. Both, in fact, perished for 102, and that led to another collapse, with Sri Lanka losing their last five wickets for just 21 runs. Given they were 259-5 at one point, Sri Lanka will feel they have left a few runs out there. But also considering they were 57-5, they will be pleased with this fightback.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, were good in the first and third sessions. Khaled did the damage in the morning, with Shoriful also chipping in. Post the tea interval, debutant Rana, courtesy his pace and bounce, ripped out both centurions, allowing Bangladesh to restrict Sri Lanka to a sub-300 total.
Batting has gotten a little easier as the day has gone on, and Bangladesh will now hope to cash in. For that, though, they have to navigate through this tricky period. Join us in a bit for the hosts' reply.
